I signed and shared a petition that asked for KDE to stay “AI”-free. Somebody reported me to my own instance over it, and I was puzzled as to why, as it seemed innocuous enough. Well I think I found why: it’s a term used in a post on the subject, shared by the official KDE account.

Well, saying I am disappointed would be putting it lightly. Those nefarious “people outside of KDE”, asking the project to consider banning LLM? There is a name for it: we are called “users”. But apparently you are not allowed a voice if you are not part of the inner circle. Promoting KDE and reporting the occasional bug is not enough. We can’t comment on https://invent.kde.org/ as it is for devs only, but it seems like we are not supposed to be vocal about our concerns on a purpose made website either. What are we supposed to do then? Just stay silent, like good consumers? Are we not part of the community too? I guess I was just stupid to think that, in a free software project that has long claimed to be community-driven, non-developers were allowed to have opinions about the tools they use and their social impact.

Il me semblait qu’en français, pour composer une énumération, on utilisait des tirets cadratins (—) plutôt que des tirets demi-cadratins (–). @Arcaik@hachyderm.io m’a justement fait remarquer que ce n’est pas ce qui est recommandé partout. Par exemple, le wiki du @bepo@framapiaf.org recommande les tirets cadratins pour cet usage (https://bepo.fr/wiki/Manuel#Tiret_sur_cadratin) tandis que Wikipédia en français affirme que ce sont les tirets demi-cadratins qui sont privilégiés (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiret#Tiret_moyen) L’office québecois de la langue française recommande indifféremment l’un (https://vitrinelinguistique.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/fiche-gdt/fiche/8392388/tiret-cadratin) comme l’autre (https://vitrinelinguistique.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/fiche-gdt/fiche/8392386/tiret-demi-cadratin)
Je me demande s’il existe des sources fiables qui tranchent en faveur de l’un ou l’autre usage. Notamment, je me demande ce qu’était la pratique courante en typographie avant l’informatisation.
Est-ce qu’il y a des spécialistes de (l’histoire de) la typographie française sur le Fédi ? Ou, à défaut, est-ce que vous avez de bonnes ressources sur le sujet ?

@NFerey@mamot.fr Je comprends mieux. C’était forcément plus difficile de savoir que le livre était une invention de l’auteur. Je suppose que les dictionnaires encyclopédiques avaient rarement une entrée sur le « Nécronomicon ».
J’espère que cette lettre type est quand même toujours utilisée de temps en temps. Ça a a un vrai charme ^^.
