I didn't water the flowers for the past two days because we'd been getting rain. This morning I saw that these flowers didn't think we got enough rain. I watered them, and set up a camera to capture the rebirth. This is a timelapse capturing roughly 4 hours in 25 seconds. #bloomscrolling

I've been a happy Roku customer and vocal evangelist of their products for over a decade. Yesterday their bullshit update landed on my devices. Today I own a new Apple TV 4K. There's no feedback channel to reach Roku privately, so I shared feedback publicly. #Roku #Enshittificationhttps://ssbipolar.com/2026/07/08/an-open-letter-to-roku/

What does it take to alienate a decade-long customer and vocal promoter of your products and services? I’m sure the details are situational and depend on the product, service, and customer, b…

I've worked in tech for ~30 years and have been building software one way or another for ~15 more.

For almost all of that time, optimizing your code was a core required skill. Does your software run well on available hardware while using (reasonably) minimal resources? If the answer was no, you weren't done - you had to figure out how to make the answer yes, or you had failed.

One aspect of the current AI madness that I don't see being discussed (not saying it's not discussed, just that I don't see it) is the radical shift away from this mindset. The default assumption with AI that no one seems to be questioning is that if the software doesn't run on available hardware we will LITERALLY DESTROY EVERYTHING to make it run. We'll destroy the economy, the environment, our whole society to throw more hardware at the problem we made.

What the actual fuck.

How did we get to this horrific end state? What can explain it other than the death cult of late-stage capitalism eating its own tail?

RE: @grimalkina@mastodon.social

This whole thread!!

I see so much of myself in this thread - both the story and the metastory. The need for narrative and the limitations/bias that choosing a narrative frame introduces are so important for understanding our own journey and for using our journey as a useful tool to help others on theirs.

Trump will need to scrape the bottom of the barrel even more aggressively to find someone more evil and repugnant to replace her, but I'm confident he'll manage somehow.

@anderseknert Around the turn of the year I saw next-level environmental hypocrisy while staying at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver. They had signs up in guest rooms saying how they were saving the environment by no longer providing complementary single-use plastic water bottles for guests... while still SELLING single-use plastic water bottles to guests at multiple places in the hotel. This might be the most transparent and insulting greenwashing I have seen so far.

I used to believe that every mediocre white guy with a podcast and an overblown sense of self worth could quote the art of war.

Thanks to Pete Fucking Hesgeth I know this wasn't true.

Sun Tzu on the other hand is laughing his ass off.

@andyjennings@aus.social Around 30 years ago I loaned a technical book to a coworker. He really liked it, and read the whole thing... but he read it in the bath and dropped it into the water. He felt bad and bought a replacement... but he kept the replacement for himself and returned my soaked and ruined book to me. I like your story better. 😂
