Episode 26 of our technology podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io (http://RuntimeArguments.fm) — and it's our one-year anniversary! This one's called "Why You'll Never Switch Editors (And What You're Missing)".

Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io surveys the text editor landscape — Vim, Emacs, VS Code, Helix, and some new AI-powered contenders — while Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io defends his 42-year Vim habit (and gets talked into looking at TreeSitter and LSPs).

As always, we want to know what you think:

Episode 27 of our technology podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io (http://RuntimeArguments.fm) is up — "SSH and how we got here".

Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io walks through SSH's three-decade arc — Tatu Ylönen's 1995 response to a campus password-sniffing attack, OpenSSH a few years later, and what's stayed essentially the same ever since — while Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io pokes at what SSH actually does beyond remote login (file copy, secure tunnels, even X forwarding). They climb the authentication ladder from passwords to public keys to hardware-backed enclaves to certificates, with practical advice along the way: use ED25519, put passphrases on your keys, set the right file permissions, and turn off password auth.

As always, we want to know what you think:

Episode 23 of our technology podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io (http://RuntimeArguments.fm). This episode is called "Containers - What's in the box????".

Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io has been doing a lot of Docker work, and along with some research to fill out his knowledge, he and Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io dig into that work: the why, the how, and what it all could do for you.

As always, we want to know what you think:

Episode 25 of our technology podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io (http://RuntimeArguments.fm) and yes, I’m insanely late with this post, though the episode was on time. This episode is called "The X Window System and Wayland".

Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io digs into the connection between Linux programs and windows showing up on the screen in front of you. Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io asks all the dumb questions you wouldn’t have uttered even if you were in the room (mostly because Wolf doesn’t care about looking dumb).

As always, we want to know what you think:

Episode 24 of our technology podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io (http://RuntimeArguments.fm). This episode is called "Bayes' Rule - The Formula For Learning Everything".

This is one of Wolf's @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io favorite things to talk about and might be the most important thing you've never heard of. Jim's @jammcq@hachyderm.io heard about it so often he's starting to be numb, but in this episode Wolf's goal was to put Bayes into Jim's brain the same way that Vim is in Jim's fingers!

Episode 22 of our #Technology #Podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io (http://RuntimeArguments.fm). This episode is named "With Claude, I'm doing the right things better and quicker". Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io talks about his AI journey since episode 8 (roughly 6 months ago). He’s really upped his game. Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io is just dipping his toes in, and has questions. Will Wolf’s answers prove compelling?

Episode 21 of our #Technology #Podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io (http://RuntimeArguments.fm). This episode is named "Everything Is A Database Problem". Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io has been using PostgreSQL for decades and has tons of both specific and general knowledge. Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io asks the questions as Jim gives a bit of history, definitions of acronyms and terms, and an understanding of facilities and behaviors.

It’s a narrower topic, but there’s knowledge here that will be new to you. Tell us what you think: feedback@RuntimeArguments.fm

Time for our #Technology #Podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io. This episode is named "Data centers - Don't we have enough already?". Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io has done the research and together with Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io we talk about it all.

We’re starting to grow from "lecturing" towards real conversations; which is what we think people want, and is what we’ve been aiming for all along. If you like (or hate, for that matter) this direction, let us know: feedback@RuntimeArguments.fm

It’s another episode of our #Technology #Podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io. This episode is named "The one where Jim asks Wolf questions". Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io has gathered questions from listeners, friends and his own experiences. Questions about terms you hear in other podcasts and presentations, and the speaker just continues as though you ought to already know what they mean. Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io has no idea what’s coming and takes on all questions (and can’t answer some!) some of the questions Jim asks: what is "Turing Complete”? What is "Big O Notation"? And more (some personal!)

We both really enjoyed this one. Hopefully there’s something here for you as well!

Time for another new episode our #Technology and #Programming related #Podcast Runtime Arguments @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io. This is "part 2" of our essentials/fundamentals topic. Episode 14 "You Are NOT Google" (https://runtimearguments.fm/2469780/episodes/18108141-14-you-are-not-google) was the essential **thinking** half. In this second half, "Episode16: Do You Have All the Right Tools in Your Toolbox" (https://runtimearguments.fm/2469780/episodes/18268976-16-do-you-have-all-the-right-tools-in-your-toolbox), Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io talks about the must-have tools; Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io asks the questions.

The episode came out on time (Saturday) but this announcement is a bit late because of travel. It’s another episode of our #Technology #Podcast, @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io.

Jim (@jammcq@hachyderm.io) did the research and does the presentation in this episode; Wolf (@YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io) asks the questions! This episode, Jim tells us all about #POSIX! What does the word mean, where does the idea come from, how did we get here, how it touches you today, and if it should influence what tools you use, how you use them, and anything you build on top of them!

Get it in all the usual places. Send us feedback to feedback@RuntimeArguments.fm.

Also, #RegularExpressions are a programming "cheat code". They should be in your toolbox!

Time for a new episode of our #Technology #Podcast! @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io explains five things that you need to be thinking about to level up as a developer. @jammcq@hachyderm.io has questions; and also, disagreements! We continue to aim for the duration you all have requested (an hour or less); and this one makes it! As always, send us your feedback: feedback@RuntimeArguments.fm.

Also, here’s some feedback related to this episode (agreeing with Jim, less so with Wolf): https://www.reddit.com/r/cprogramming/comments/1ois8c8/new_book_why_learn_c/?share_id=HqyrC4uKjUnKXSvzwWb79&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=4

Time for a new episode of our #Technology #Podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io! @jammcq@hachyderm.io weaves the history of terminals; @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io asks the questions. More history than skills, and there are pointers to other things. Another fun one to record; I hope it’s just as fun to listen to! We continue to shoot for the episode length listeners say they want. We love feedback on every kind: feedback@RuntimeArguments.fm. Give us a listen!

Time for another episode (#12) of @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io, our #Technology #Podcast. In this episode @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io helps you decide if you can leverage #GPUs for faster cheaper solutions to your current problem. @jammcq@hachyderm.io asks the questions. We’re working on manageable lengths; so this one just barely tops an hour. Spoiler: one of us is a winner in this episode, and one is not! Tell us what you think: feedback@RuntimeArguments.fm

Episode 20 of our #Technology #Podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io (http://RuntimeArguments.fm). This episode is named "Git protects you". Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io has used and explained #Git since maybe 2006 or 2007. Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io has been a convert since 2017 and he brings the challenges he faced in his journey.

We tried to walk the line here: things you must know, plus some power tools that punch way above their weight. We hope you get something out of it, and have a good time while you listen. Whatever you think, let us know: feedback@RuntimeArguments.fm

Hot off the presses: Episode #11 of @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io, our #Technology #Podcast. In this episode @jammcq@hachyderm.io dives into the details of #IPv6 #Networking and @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io asks the questions (yes, I had a lot of completely wrong misconceptions). It weighs in at just over an hour. We both learned lot. This was a fun episode to make. I hope you get as much out of it as we did! Tell us what you think: feedback@RuntimeArguments.fm

It’s episode 10 (the 11th episode, because we started at 0) of our #Podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io. Today we’re talking about super powers: combining tools that already exist instead of writing whole new programs from scratch — by using the command line. And we’re asking for feedback: what’s a good length for an episode. Get it wherever you get your podcasts. The title of this episode is "Command-Line Superpowers: Connecting Simple Tools for Complex Solutions". Give it a listen and tell us what you think!

It’s another episode of our #Technology #Podcast @RuntimeArguments@hachyderm.io. This episode is named "Does my key fob have more computing power than the Lunar lander?" Jim @jammcq@hachyderm.io talks about the history, evolution, and power of what today we call the #CPU, finally precisely answering the title question (and more). Wolf @YesJustWolf@hachyderm.io asks the questions.

How long should an episode of Runtime Arguments be? Wish I could add a 30 minute choice.
