Having cut the guts out of the Environment Agency by underfunding, depriving it of enforcement powers and presiding over a revolving door for executives between Water corporations & their regulators, the Tories now declare it fit for nothing but abolition. (The same scheme as for their privately hoped-for privatisation of the NHS). Nothing has changed at the Sewage Tory party. Curse them for the 14 years of filth & corruption they emptied into our lives. Never again. #sewagetories

"The reason we are both grinning is that we are enjoying vengeance. Good, honest, straightforward and Christian vengeance...we can rejoice together.'

David Starkey to Nathan Cofnas, on the suicide of Jason Arday.

The public discourse now between British right wing nutters is truly awful.

What other right wing European politicians can JD be persuaded to fly in to lobby for on the eve of important weathervane elections?

If Count Binface is elected to the House of Commons, he will have to disclaim his title, (as did Anthony Wedgwood Benn) and become plain old Mr Binface. I'm sure his wellwishers can live with that.

Much more seemly than the conferring of FakeLord titles on common losers to secure their continued participation in democratic (hah!) service (yes, you David Cameron, Zac Goldsmith & others).

David Lammy would have made a better Home Secretary than continuity Mahmood who has done nothing but double-down on the "hard man" act in the role, in some sort of tribute act to the awful Theresa "Go home vans" May, and is not to be trusted with British civil liberties.

Naivety? Sloppy unprofessionalism? Or worse ?

Whenever such hasbeens as Lord Robertson pop up from obscurity and start receiving headline BBC news coverage, we all do well to smell a rat.

One that sits on the Board.

And requires to be ousted, without further delay or damage.

Time for our new leadership to review Automatic Number Plate Recognition as part of its reassessment of ID in the digital age. What sort of country do we want to live in? One like China where surveillance is universal as part of their state's total control of internet access? ANPR has been permitted to morph from a police tool combatting vehicle-related crime, to private corporations, with no national conversation. Implicit, is state collusion - sale of private data to the parking oligarchs.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social Falling for "the Cloud" scam, highly-paid corporate executives, sucked-in by introductory pricing, have mortgaged the entire operating capacity of the companies they administer to ill-regulated US Big Tech, so conferring the equivalent of  ransomware control to near-monopolies. Observe, now with AI, the same pricing model, (it's FREE - we're GIVING IT AWAY!!!") as AI giants battle for monopoly. (So, also, private health insurance). Once the fishes are hooked, then begins the play.

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister) estimates the cost of #Brexit at 8% , (£224Bn running at £4.3Bn a week) drawing on US studies.

Your problem, Rachel Reeves, is your lack of independently-verified public UK Government data. You NEED to institute a #BrexitInquiry , immediately. Because until you do, your detractors, diehard Brexiters led by the oligarch-owned British press, will simply mock you, as it did with your Tory fiscal "black hole" pronouncement, and claim "fake news".

"Get your own oil" from the Moron in Chief presupposes the fiction that, all this time, he and his nation have been "getting it" for "us". (Rather than than it was bought & sold by professional traders in global markets in conditions of peace and maritime right of free passage uninterrupted by the aggressive offensive military action of the USA (abusing allies, where too timid to object, as stationary aircraft carriers for transit of their hideous cilivian murdering munitions)). #IranWar

What to make of this purile hyperbole?
"Carnage" is descriptive of slaughter & massacre. Not travel delay & disruption.

The implicit effort, in the manner of reporting, to blackguard Easyjet, & the EU, adds self-delusion to the misdirected outrage.

We VOTED (collectively) for this.

And for those who voted to Remain, with (now) the many who abstained owing perhaps to uncertainty as to the consequences, the entire stolen decade has been the "nightmare".

An alliance is a partnership of equals under conditions of mutual respect.

An organisation in which the strongest dictates to the weaker partners is no alliance.

NATO risks being reduced, by the manbaby in the White House, to a satrapy.

If he flounces out, so be it. #NATO will continue in being without him, restored to a partnership of equals, who remain, by alliance, sufficiently strong for purpose.

NATO members must not permit themselves to be blackmailed into joining Trump's war.

MacDonald, on meeting Macleod, the psychotic piper of Clann an Drumma at the merch desk, who glanced at his be-kilted psychotic comrades at my son's mention of our name and muttered something ominous ;

"Ach! Harta Corrie. The Bloody Stone. I don't remember who won".

MacLeod:  "I don't remember who started it".

Clann an Drumma, on tour. Not to be missed for an assault on the senses. Pure showmanship.

@cockneylaurie@mastodonapp.uk I thoroughly agree - it would be very regrettable for all the reasons you set out. NATO is however, a Defence Alliance. Trump's endeavour to force into his illegal offensive attack on Iran is a perversion of its very reason for existence. (Unsuprising perhaps from a pervert). If he succeeds, NATO will be changed, forever, from a organisation dedicated to preservation of peace, to a tool for US presidents to employ at whim to prosecute war. Better to address the inconveniences.

The Art of the Deal: Maxim number [whatevs] :

"Not making progress? Easy. I start negotiating with myself".

So, Trump today made up a story about fictitious "talks" with the Iranian Government, which the speaker of the Iranian Parliament denies.

This must be what they learned to do in Real Estate (him and his golf-buddy Witkoff). Offers too low? Easy - make up a fictitious competing buyer.

What a clownfest.

We will be committing teens to life imprisonment for the negligent and accidental 'killing' of (in the main) elderly pedestrians. Shitty performative crowd-pleasing legislation aimed at a few positive headlines from the car-lobby oligarch-owned press (that is, virtually all of it). Same mistake as made by our forebears, applying draconian penalties in the hope it will deter 'bad stuff'. Very poor #Labour

@avilewis@mstdn.ca Because Palantir markets a magic solution to a problem most elected politicians are only just beginning to acknowledge & know very little about: that of useful data being in silos, represented by ageing incompatible IT systems unable to "talk" to each other. Snake oil salesmen promise "we can fix that with AI" & the greenhorn politicos fall for it. In reality, what emerges is useless for most purposes: moderated by AI, it can never be considered reliable to an evidential standard.
