That's the other point that we kept making, sexual assault is illegal & unguarded bathrooms are everywhere. Protecting LGBTQ people does not change that. Why must they be so unreasonable & cruel? Fear? Because culture war is the way to get people to vote against their economic interests? I guess those are the reasons.

That's wild but that's US normal. Instead of sounding like you were advocating for others if you start with, "I am really mad that I can't get the olive oil I like anymore because..." I think anything that you say after that gets a pass because it's self centered. Maybe that's how to speak to Americans! I don't know, I stopped trying.

In public comment I made the point that the people most likely to suffer from this panic were women with short hair—not that the opposition listens to reason.
I have a dear friend who is tall, has short hair, & is a lesbian. She's been rudely accosted many times in restrooms.
These people are unhinged.

The latter reviews retired Justice Bryer's 2024 book Reading the Constitution: Why I Chose Pragmatism, Not Textualism that begins with the snails on a train anecdote, that of a biology teacher transporting snails & a conductor who insisted that passengers who transport animals on the train must purchase a ticket for the animals.

Similar to the encouragement from @CatherineBabault@mastodon.social to shop local for gifts, when dining out or ordering prepared food, smaller is better. You usually have a good sense of which places are chains & which are owned by a member of the community. You can always ask around or look it up. It makes a big difference to patronize locally-owned restaurants that are often one person's or a family's passion project. The struggle of "real" people vs. corporations is perilous. #ShopSmall

What are social media posts?
• Complaints, many of them. It's a sort of universal complaints/suggestion box. I'm forever sharing my health complaints plus vague dissatisfaction with society.
• Bossing. A variant of complaint that barks orders at others, named or unnamed, on exactly how they are to act in order to please poster. These are very popular on fedi. This very post is a subtle version, wishing for less of this type of post.
• Content. News, photos, links, poems, ideas, stories, etc.

@lake pretty much, yeah. I first heard the story on a law podcast in which they also took that stance, arguing that the proper remedy is for the law to be written more clearly. Lawyers! Seems like the pertinent detail would be: Does the animal's container require an additional seat? Buy a ticket. Can it fit easily on the paying passenger's lap? No ticket.

(The parentheticals I can probably figure out. I know .htaccess might be a way to block user agents & I can assume that you block the usual suspects of insatiable privacy invading corporations. I'm a beginner level site maintainer who cares about privacy & fighting the capitalist ruination of the web.)

physical health, moving out of my US life, making difficult decisions... no one is going to help me as much as I need. My needs are too great & everyone I know is either barely surviving their own lives or just not willing. I have to face that. That new knowledge led me to throw away some antiques last week, just put them on the curb for anyone or garbage. That felt freeing. I have to survive & my new life will include new people someday, I hope. For now I just gotta get out.

Nu Trek complaints re: ST:SNW S3
+that they decided to replace it with characters who don't claim to know anything. In the old shows we were meant to suspend our disbelief & trust that the characters understood what they were saying. Now it's all 2020s slang exclamations.
This complaint isn't just for Star Trek. Action fantasy comedies with swearing, casual characters are everywhere. Nothing against swearing but I miss thought. Thoughtful sci-fi is almost nonexistent.

Disenchantment season 2 thoughts
I like season one (called part one) more than two. On the one hand the world building gets deeper & that's good. It simply happens as a consequence of more episodes. But the first season moved on pace along the arc. S2 is more rambling. I don't demand long story arcs if a show is good in every installment—example: I prefer old episodic Star Trek to new Trek with arcs. This show that I liked last season now feels meandering & time wasting.

@maxalmonte14 I don't normally have Netflix access so it's all new to me. (Back when I did I was really a fan of Bojack Horseman & that's not sweetly touching at all! Or, it is if you can see it through the bleakness.) I see on this tv that Disenchantment has 5 seasons of 10 episodes. If I understand Netflix the last season aired in '23.
@Deglassco Laurel is just a skip away from where I'm currently living. I wonder if they celebrate her. I hope so. I may go there soon & I'll look for markers recognizing her. What a voice!
My favorite things to do lately are sleep and imagine details of my solarpunk "better world" story. Even though constant pain makes thinking difficult, and that's frustrating, I still enjoy dreaming of a better world.

I'm at a 20-something wedding this weekend where I suspect there will be dancing but at last night's welcome party I noticed no interaction with the music. It wasn't live but still the tunes had me swaying & no one else did. No single gathering defines a generation. Tonight's wedding will be a "safe space" among friends but I believe his point about socializing in public.
