If you've been wanting to move your activity history from Strava to FitPub but dreaded dealing with the export files, I made a small browser tool that does the heavy lifting.
Drop in your Strava export files, it decompresses the .fit.gz files, splits everything into correctly-sized ZIP batches, and hands them back for upload. No install, no server, runs entirely in your browser.

@ferricoxide@blahaj.zone It's a HW device (barcode scanner) of given store passing information to other device (cashier desk), so I don't see it as a threat vector.
Plus ... honestly ... things like NFC-scan-proof wallets are just a snake oil costing more $$$ than what they actually save.
For example: QR code payments are the norm in Czechia and Switzerland. While some kids can tamper with things, it's more of a myth than real threat.

In case you were not aware: Sharing routes from #strava with non strava users is not possible. They will not let you view the route, download #GPX, edit (a copy), nothing. The only flow allowed is to register to do even the most basic things.
So please before sharing, make sure that the other person actually has strava account. Or use any other service that does not put basic things behind login.

There is this funny “language blindness” happening in my head: Since I’ve been using English more than my mother tongue (#Czech) for years now, I can’t tell which language I’ve used in conversations with fluently #English speaking people from my country. It just doesn’t register - language used is not part of a memory. Just that the information was passed over.

The attempts of security vendors to compete on this level are always just a patch:
1) No systemic OS support (yeah, sort of, hacky, but no)
2) No transparent chain. No agency of the user.
3) Incentivised by $$$ so flops out as fast as it’s built.

My friend knew what they wanted to do. But because there is no button, obscure tech jargon a just heaps of half-arsed #UX treatments, they thought that there is no way to do what they wanted (there isn't btw: they don't use computer & there is no export button on iOS), they had to lean onto the wisdom of the authority (me) to figure out how to do this extremely trivial thing instead doing it on their own.

@ambiguous_yelp@veganism.social Gosh, this is so ignorant it hurts. An LLM agent can have context, history, access to your personal tools and accounts. You can literally tell it to “Answer John. On-site availability. Next week.” and it will pull out the request, your calendar, your commute options in given times, and will likely also avoid options where you would need to be on a zoom call while in train.
You can not do this “by hand” as easily. And pretending so is just short sighted.

I wonder if there is an image format useable for "streaming progressive enhancement":
- Image file can be cropped at any point from beginning to Nth byte and the image could be displayed with _some_ level of representation of the _entire_ image
- The more of image data is preserved, the more sharp/detailed/precise the image can be rendered
This could have an amazing application as images for websites would not have to be downscaled and cached. Clients would just load "enough" for given view
Personal opinion: Nowadays it’s extremely rude to try to call someone, let their phone with missed call and NOT to send them a quick message with tl;dr of what you wanted.
Maybe it’s just the Millenial in me, but a missed call will cause panic and lack of explanatory message will make the panic go to overdrive.
