I just read Cody Mallette's vigorous defense of the notwithstanding clause in the National Post. It seems thoughtful and balanced, but it's bullshit.
You can bet your ass off that these right wing proponents of legislative bodies superceding jurisprudence or actual inalienable human rights would go to pieces if any province invoked s33 to strip property rights rather than just abuse marginalized communities and children.

I admire the gall of the UCP in (incorrectly) calling out Naheed Nenshi for not rapidly reporting his suspicion about illegal use of personal information at a meeting their own staff attended.

OpenAI showed up at Parliament Hill today without satisfactory answers to the questions asked about their safety and reporting protocols.
They had lots of time to prepare.
They could have asked ChatGPT to write them something.
I have a suggestion for Canada's "AI Minister", Evan Solomon: try regulations.

AI may help candidates get through the initial filters, but it does little to make a candidate stand out.
If you're applying for a job, don't rely on the output of your favoured AI system. Even if it improves the quality of your application, you will get lost in the chaff.
Bring yourself to your application so that you stand out. I'm not interested in what predictive model says about you... I'm interested in you.

Microsoft's May 2026 upgrade fail just cost us $250 in data recovery and many many hours of lost time trying to restore and reconfigure my wife's laptop.
The impunity with which these large corporations can screw over their "customers" (read: hostages) is despicable.

It seems to have died down, but a few years back there was a lot of discussion and speculation about the increase in seismic activity in Alberta aligning with the increase in fracking extraction.
Sometimes there isn't direct causal evidence, but the theory seems plausible...
