This is a long-shot, but what the heck.
I'm looking to #getfedihired. I'm a Mortgage LOS System Admin with 15+ years of administering, supporting, and configuring the Encompass LOS. What does that mean? I run the enterprise software for a mid-size, regional mortgage bank. A lot of skill overlap with an Business Analyst position. I have some coding experience, but I'm not a developer. I used to be an attorney, so I also bring compliance skills.

Well good news! Just had a follow up on the rib fracture and apparently all the stuff online is wrong? He estimates four to six weeks for symptom free recovery. Not great but also significantly less terrible than what I was worrying.

Also! Fellow white people: remember to use your privilege for good. This couple was (and presumably still are) Black. I'm a middle-aged white man with metric tons of privilege and the folks at the hardware store know me very well. So I was able to borrow a tool from the shop without paying for it. (an ultra long grabby claw thing that we were able to squeeze in a crack to unlock the door)

Ha! Yep. Totally jinxed myself. There was a very distressed young couple in the hardware store parking lot with their tiny baby. They had locked their keys in their car. Since they obviously would have called a locksmith if that was something in their financial means I offered to help. Said help involved me doing physical things that I probably should not have been doing. That said we successfully got the keys out of their car and they were able to get their baby out of the hot sun.

They have been conducting a work slow down for the last 6 years because they got their feelings hurt by the protests. Now it's possible, I suppose, that both could be true. But until they stop the work slow down we'll never know.
Damn Portland really loves it's free compost. I'm in line for Portland's free compost day and it's backed up over a mile!!

I'm probably going to jinx myself here. But I'm relatively pain free while just sitting down today. And I've got 80-85% range of motion before it goes beyond uncomfortable into actual pain. Hooray for bodies doing that healing thing they do!

Her older stuff is much better than the newer stuff imho. There's always Simone Giertz, but I just assume everyone already follows her. John's Furniture Repair (named after her father I believe) can be a little boring but she's a professional and knows her stuff.
So, I had a pretty rough case of COVID a couple years ago. Screwed up my sense of smell and taste for several weeks. Everything smelled sort of rotten and anything with vinegar particularly so.
My sense of smell and taste eventually returned BUT every now and then I'll wake up in the morning and the rotten smell/taste is back nearly full blown (including this morning). Anybody know what the mechanism is for this??

Hey fellow un-medicated ADHD folks. Do you have any tricks for handling inattentive-type symptoms? Like, you've got a thing you HAVE to focus on, but your brain is all "nah, bruh."
ETA: In this case I'm talking about immediate situations where taking breaks is not possible. Like an important training webinar that I HAVE to pay attention to.
Couldn't put my finger on exactly why today's weather felt so RIGHT until I realized that it's because it's wet outside and the sky is gray. As it should be this time of year in Portland.

I want to go to a bookstore. My local one is only 1.5 miles away so normally I'd just walk it. Occassionally I might bike it if time was tight.
But I'm still recovering and have had several setbacks this weekend, including tripping/falling last night. I caught myself but not w/o undoing some healing. So walking/biking are out. I looked at public transit and it's two buses with a layover. That's silly for something only 1.5 miles away. So that leaves driving. :/ I'll probably just skip it.

Wearing a lidocaine patch (prescription strength!) to help with some weird, worsening rib pain. And I'm reminded of an experience a couple years ago at the dentist:
The hygienist was giving me lidocaine injections in advance of a procedure and my heart started racing like crazy. When I mentioned this to her, she said "Yes lidocaine can cause that to 'men of a certain age'".
I laughed at the phrasing and said "you mean "old"? She stammered a bit and said something like "I mean men over 40."

My wee dog Lucky is a particularly needy and demanding little furbeast and is really struggling with my injury.
No walks for nearly 2 weeks and cuddles are severely limited. First I was afraid he might jostle my rib. But I'm also still really bruised so lap cuddles are a no. I've tried situating him in my lap in a way that doesn't hurt my bruises but he absolutely refuses to accommodate my needs and tries to switch to his preferred position. Poor guy doesn't know what to do with himself. :(
