@MiaMarkTwo@syzito.xyz very grasping at straws. That *is* the point I think. Make the list so long and complex that no one can ever comply. Here’s the deal: I’m not throwing bricks through synagogue windows and I’d do quite a lot to stop those who would. But I’m not gate keeping for Zionists on pretty much any of the massive list they keep. We know why they do it and it’s got nothing to do with keeping Jews safe and all to do with maintaining a privileged, post-holocaust untouchable status.

If our reaction there is ‘fuck you, you should have known’ I suspect there are big double standards being applied. Do we demand the same for other groups? All the ways the British are offensive and ignorant towards the Irish for eg? There is a very clear Zionist playbook which includes making accusations of antisemitism against many people for inadvertent breaches of a code which is so wide no one could ever observe completely. I think we should be very careful of being their policemen 2/n

@MiaMarkTwo@syzito.xyz quite… I think the octopus things because of the tentacles and the actually antisemitic tropes of Jews having their fingers in many pies. I think. But yeah. Mad stuff there. It was completely new to me at the time and yet apparently Greta should have known. Likewise actually with Jeremy C when he liked an anti-capitalist mural with what are antisemitic tropes of him nosed bankers. He apologised - said he hadn’t seen it like that. Seemed a reasonable reaction.

We have Old World Swallowtail caterpillars on our fennel again - I’ve been looking for them having seen them for the first time last year. We lost lots to the sparrows last time - and with a very chirpy and active juvenile robin in the garden this year I am now collecting the caterpillars and protecting them from predators. 8 so far and much family excitement. They have been named Colin Colinetta Colinette Colleen Colonial Colinata and Colineight This is going to be fun! #Gardening

I’ve got a #gardening dilemma: the cutest little ginger bumble bees are nesting in my compost heap. I started to dig it out this morning and realised there were a load of bees around. And then I clicked. I watched and sure enough - they were going in and out. But I need my compost and I need to use that space!!!! I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions???

Here’s a thought Masto people: before you post your personal little gripe at someone who would otherwise be an ally, how about using a small amount of brain power and empathy to consider whether it achieves any end that you actually desire. Or is this just a bit of self indulgent wankery which actually just makes people think - what a total tosser?

Just a thought eh…. Which hill do I actually want to die on?

@JugglingWithEggs@mstdn.social There is a reality that small businesses will struggle with the extra costs. The question is how we address it. We have the same with parental leave pay. For us that cost consumes about 2/3rds of our annual profit on average. So then the question is whether we want companies to cover that cost (I'm Ok with that) or to do as more progressive countries do and get the state to cover most of that cost. We could take the same approach here: a cost that HAS to be incurred could be supported through taxation. I'd find that money by cutting our military engagements overseas a bit - those 26 (?) unsanctioned foreign operations which Mercer identified that parliament has no idea about for eg. I note that neither Switzerland nor Norway (both of which I know about) are going bust as a result of such progressive policies - though you'd find that hard to believe if you read the hysterics from the corporate right. @ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk

QQ Masto #gardening people: will my sweet peas come again if I cut them back and water them>? I've been away for 3 weeks and they are pretty crispy but some still flowering a but. Also it seems I didn't understand the gap between amount-of-stems-to-be-cut-every-day and amount-of-stems-friends-havecapacity-to-cut-every-day. By several orders of magnitude. So have started the mammoth job of cutting out the seed heads (which I'll keep for next year and share with all and sundry) and some of the obviously very dead stems. But could the rest come again? Thanks!

@MiaMarkTwo@syzito.xyz I love doing anti-capitalism right in their world. It’s ace! Funny how many senior, older folks (esp women actually) don’t swoon when I describe quite how fucked off I am with capitalism and what it’s doing to us. Some deeper recognition that it’s just not working out. Garden is struggling with drought - apple trees casting their fruit etc. But I am watering madly and some stuff is ok. This is the 2nd year of serious drought and it’s mad!!! How are you???

Glad to hear that health stuff isn’t making capitalism’s lovely financial demands impossible for you… I’m setting up a new ‘thing’ to steal work from a private equity owned menace of a business while training some folks to do stuff which they could then use as freelancers so that’s more motivating than some of the stuff I have had to do in my life 😀😆😀

Not sure on the sabbatical: getting slowly dragged back into some work stuff but happily no client delivery which is the really stressy stuff. I've got a while before finances will become pressing enough I have to get back to earning properly again... deferring that as long as I can.

@lionelb@expressional.social yes - been researching this morning. We have a stack of fennel (and if we didn’t it is prolific wild here). We got 2 through to full emerged butterflies last year (2 out of 2) and I think it was daily cleaning and food change until pupation. I’ve left my sprouting broccoli un-netted this year to encourage the cabbage whites and it’s worked amazingly. The garden is full of them and lots of others too but haven’t actually seen Swallowtails yet - just offspring

@artistsgarden@mastodonapp.uk Nice post. I recognise a fair few of them from my own unkempt garden - lovely! Are those canterbury bells in there? The key though to me is dealing with the thug 'weeds'. For us that is a strange combo: couch grass - absolutely. I wonder how much of my time I spend pulling out couch grass roots? I have a little bind wind - and need to stop it becoming a lot so every strand gets dug out and the roots I can get to as well. And then echiums seed themselves everywhere and would take over without control. So I find it's less about organising and more about keeping some plants in check so others which aren't so dominant have a chance to show. I remember a chat with an environmental scientist a couple of years back who offered: in the UK, if there were no intervention, how long would it be before the country was covered in buddleia and bramble? Well - fair point! Untidy? Great! Mono-weed - not great. #gardening
