A few extra notes to share from the hospital today - not all directly about my Mom's health. In point form because that works best for me, when my brain is overloaded daily.

• I reprimanded 1 doctor & 1 student doctor today, for being part of the hospital team that was responsible for dangerous early discharge, on September 8th. I straight up told them - they almost killed Mom with that bullying/forced discharge, that they're responsible for her having her first stroke & I'm documenting everything & telling thousands of people online how they practiced eugenics fail care, using highly vulnerable patients as pawns. I said none of that is OK at all. They kept apologizing. Again, had to say stop apologizing & start to do better, every day!

• I had to tell one HCA that her saying elderly people can eat anything they want is dangerous, untrue & can kill a lot of elderly with conditions that need specialized diets. I reminded that ignorant LPN that proper, patient specific nutrition is key to successful recoveries & anyone who doesn't know that, doesn't really belong in health care work. She wasn't happy about me being direct like that. I don't care - she deserves to be told these things.

• A husband of one of Mom's roommates was glad that I wasn't budging & being very direct with staff. After staff left, he told me - I heard everything that you talked about with both of those staff. You are a strong advocate. I'm going to start documenting with photos & audio recordings too. I learned how to protect & advocate for my wife more, listening to how you handled those people. I noticed they were very uncomfortable when you looked at them in the face & said: I will not allow hospital staff to kill another of my parents. Do better, starting now.

• I had a nice 15 minutes reunion with the lovely, always masked Black family with the autistic young son. He wore my floral jacket with my purple hat for his photos at the hospital today. That family is wonderful & I love bumping into them at RJH ❤️

I met a 12 year old leukemia patient today. I was coming out of the gift shop, after Mom bought some diabetic friendly candies & this young girl stopped us. She complimented me on my outfit & purple hat. Then tells me, I saw you coming in yesterday, pretty purple hat lady. You stood out from the crowd. You smiled at me! Mom & I went outside with her & her parents. We all sat in the beautiful sunshine together. Mom chatted with her parents while she chatted with me. I put purple hat on her & she beamed with happiness 💜 Her parents took photos of her with me. I took photos of her & her parents. Mom took photos of me with their family. They're from Mexico. Mom was telling her parents, I love Mexican food. They were telling Mom, we love Chinese & Vietnamese foods. How lovely! The little girl told me that she's undergoing some treatments in VGH before going to Vancouver next month. How she has been fighting her cancer for 4 years so far. Told me that she likes being at VGH more than Jubilee because she can see the forests & lots of eagles flying in the skies, almost daily, from her hospital room window. She told me, how seeing eagles fly helps her hospital stays be more bearable & seeing them fly, gives her hope too 🦅 She's a very sweet, hella strong little girl. Prayers up, for her & her family too. May she also kick cancer 💜💗🫂🙏🕯❤️⚕️

I'm informed tonight that my Mom is also eligible for stem cell transplant surgery. That type of cancer treatment surgery ended up saving one of my friend's lives. He had stage 4 cancer too. He's been cancer free over 3 years now. He's younger than Mom but not by much.

I'm now asking for all of your messages of hopeful support, as Mom starts to prepare herself for micro ablation cancer treatment. It is her first of several cancer killing treatments. I took one of Mom's roommates down to cafe for her to get a fruits snack & a small coffee. Wheeled her out into the warm sunshine, by these mixed floral planters. We spent 30 minutes out there. She told me about her best/happiest years, living in Thailand, Cambodia & Laos. She volunteered at several health clinics, helping victims of colonial violence, including generational Agent Orange victims. I was told how she worked for Red Cross, in several places across Africa, from her early 20s-early 30s & that is when she started getting really angry at how colonial violence/white privilege hurt so many people in Global South. I can understand why she became an anti-colonial anarchist a lot better, after hearing some of her life history 💗🙌💗 I thanked her for sharing her lived experiences & her thoughts about current state of the world with me, a stranger 💗🫂

I was very relieved to see that Mom's condition had improved yesterday and she was able to feed herself with some light assistance. I had to help remove the twist-off meal plate cover, cut up meat & take foil cover off juice/milk. I'm hoping to see some more improvements over this weekend. Any progress at all is good. I don't want her discharged again until much more stabilized because last week's early discharge by unit clerk, went against my wishes & against our prior agreement with internalist doctors & it almost ended up killing her. #LiverCancer #CancerCaregivers #PrayersForMom

This is life saving, cancer treatment that BC public health covers, for cancer patients. They just no longer cover costs for family support accommodations. I'm going to need help to cover accommodations costs when Mom starts her liver transplant journey. She doesn't want to be alone during scariest part.

How can you help me/Mom & many others - start using any privileges you have to call out unmasked people, especially in hospital settings, especially if they're public health care workers. I do that, daily - when at work & when not at work. Please use your privileges more to use your voice. You can try this experiment, almost anywhere in the world. Pick the most elitist municipality/neighbourhood in your area. Just try to suggest building a new data centre, right in midst. You will hear hate/threats hella fast but not for same reasons that marginalized communities oppose building new data centres.

I found out from one of my cousins that my youngest Uncle (on Dad's side of family, lived in Vancouver) had recently lost his long battle with diabetes & consequencing multiple organs failures 💔😭🙏🕯 He was the one who introduced me to rock n roll & the powers of visual art, when I was a young child. Uncle Loi was a natural born artist who never had any opportunities to pursue his art dreams. He loved art & music the most. He could draw & paint by sight; some of his artworks looked like photographs, they were so detailed. May he rest in peace 🕯🙏 💔
