Open post Jes @Jesticulated@mastodon.social · 5mo ago Replying to @adhdeanasl@beige.party I was a bit unprofessional today. I asked the host of a meeting to mute the zoom participants, then I addressed the two staff present in-person about their insistence on using a student’s dead name. One staffer used the excuse that the name is in the official paperwork. I called it an excuse and reminded them both that this is a human being. I might not be called back to interpret more of those meetings, but I couldn’t bear keep hearing them treat the student like that. Bureaucracy is not an excuse for mistreating others. @adhdeanasl Thank you for saying something!

Open post Jes @Jesticulated@mastodon.social · 6mo ago Replying to @david_castleton@universeodon.com
Route 666 (now mostly renumbered 491) was an American highway that wound through Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. Due to the associations of 666 with the Antichrist, the route was rumoured to be cursed. The road was said to be haunted by a phantom 1930s car that forced drivers off the road, a demonic smoke-and-fire-belching truck, and skin walkers, dangerous creatures from Navajo myth. There were also accounts of a ghostly female hitchhiker and UFOS, which allegedly created timeslips - meaning drivers could disappear then reappear miles down the road not knowing what had happened to them. Much of the road's mythology might have come about thanks to its high accident rate - its renumbering in 2003 coincided with safety improvements. #mythologymonday #folklore #gothic #mythology #paranormal #ghosts #weird #history
@david_castleton Strange that it went from an even number to a odd number presuming it still goes in the same direcrion

Open post Jes @Jesticulated@mastodon.social · 5mo ago Replying to @eco-g@stroud.social MYTH BUSTING 💚
See the facts, not the fiction; read our real policies below.

[1] “Greens want to abolish air travel”. This is false. We’re not proposing to abolish air travel. We advocate for a frequent-flyer levy, a ban on domestic flights for journeys that could be completed by train in less than three hours, and a halt to airport expansion

[2] “Greens want to end meat and dairy”. Wrong. We support improved animal welfare in the meat and dairy industry, but we’re not calling for any kind of ban. Our position emphasises sustainable practices and British-sourced farming above all.

[3] “Greens want to force home degrowth”. Wrong again. Our housing policy is to invest £29 billion over five years; insulating existing homes to slash the cost of living, building new social and affordable housing, and improving energy efficiency.

[4] “Greens want to abolish capitalism”. Another media smear, headline lie. We advocate for greater regulation, public ownership of key utilities (like rail, water, and energy), and to tax extreme wealth. We are not calling for the abolition of capitalism or the free market. Who makes up this garbage?

[5] “Greens want to disband NATO”. Nope. We support NATO reform, a “no first use” nuclear weapons policy, and reducing spending while supporting international laws that protect us, but we have not called for NATO to be disbanded.

[6] “Greens will abolish the police”. More lies. We propose restoring youth services, community-based policing, rehabilitation programmes and ending violence against women and girls; we’re not calling for the police to be abolished.

[7] “They will open the borders without controls”. Our policy calls for a fair and humane system of managed immigration, whilst supporting the ending of hellish detention centres for most migrants.

[8] “They will redefine family and gender”. Wrong. We support self-identification and oppose discrimination against trans and non-binary people, that’s all.

[9] “Greens will force Universal Basic Income”. False again. We support TRIALING Universal Basic Income, but as part of a broader reform of welfare to ensure economic security.

[10] “They will ban nuclear energy”. Not really, no. We oppose new nuclear for safety reasons, high costs and waste issues, instead prioritising renewables such as wind, solar, and tidal, which are cheaper, quicker to implement and more efficient in the long term.

[11] “Greens want to legalise crack cocaine”. One last time… WRONG. We want to decriminalise, not legalise drugs. This means supporting those victims of drug addiction, rather than penalising them; it’s even been proven to work in a number of European countries. Drug supply will still be illegal.

#GreenParty #ukpol
@eco-g Its a shame you dont want to abolish capitalism, cops and NATO. Open post Jes @Jesticulated@mastodon.social · 8mo ago Replying to @jonah@mastodon.neat.computer I think some are still missing the point. I’m not saying they’re going to lock up every single person who uses a VPN or watches porn. Your government’s strategy is to make “crimes” like this as common and easy to commit as possible. This way, if you ever do something completely legal which they *actually* don’t like, *which can be completely unrelated to VPNs or bypassing age verification,* they can pull up your internet history and easily prosecute you. Organize a legitimate protest, and the government’s swift response will be to label you a child sex offender because they found you using evil VPN technology. This is how free speech dies, not from a law that says “free speech is dead now,” but from draconian, authoritarian laws like this that give the government “plausible” reasons to go after anyone, which can’t easily be fought against. This has always been the playbook to target innocents. In the USA, drug possession laws being created as a pretense for cops to raid and dismantle minority communities, for example. And now this is coming to the digital realm. @jonah@mastodon.neat.computer Reminds me of how they have been using the war on drugs
