I saw something about supermarkets and some corporations trying out "dynamic pricing", where the price of something changes based on their estimation of what you might pay based on their surveillance of you.
So I'm going to announce my trial of "Dynamic payment", where I pay what I think a service is worth, based on my experience. Bad news for Apple TV, for a start. And Amazon Prime owes me money already.

I think one of the saddest things about being on mastodon is seeing the number of posts about trials of UBI, or housing the homeless, or like today, the solar coverings over canals, and knowing you'll see them again and again without them being implemented because some billionaire will lose money he'd never notice.

Thinking of not getting a tattoo for my 54th birthday. I've got a sleeve of no tattoos down both arms, and I think not getting another tattoo will fit in well. Aesthetically speaking.

@MayhamMonday@mstdn.ca I think the "film" should only be "shown" to AI "agents" who can then generate a podcast about it, which can be summarised by other AI Agents, and no real people will have to give a damn about it.

So, a company called "Streamline AI" sent me an email to let me know that they had scraped my personal information from the web and would be selling it on to spammers and scammers UNLESS I wished to use their online portal to complete the takedown request. We know how this goes. I have to pay a fee and then just trust them not to sell on anyway. I emailed them back with an invoice for doing the work, plus a line that receipt of the email indicates agreement to pay up front. It won't work.

Isn't modern technology wonderful?
I had an MRI on Monday, and thanks to the modern internet, I can access the images only twenty four hours later.
So instead of vaguely worrying about what it may show, I can specifically worry about things in the images that I have no idea about. Is that bright spot supposed to be there? Why is that lumpy shape only on one side? Is that a spleen? WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS THERE?
Wonderful.

@Natasha_Jay OK, this is why the other day I suggested that no one needs to quote "Elon Musk says" or any of that stuff anymore. Stop interviewing these idiots, and ask their idiot-boxes to make up what they MIGHT have said. That might get them to understand that having "AI" stand in for real people is a bad idea. And if it doesn't, at least we're still only getting bullshit answers like we would if we asked the "real" people.

Just had to look up how to spell "MacGuffin". And this is why I don't have any interest in the internet trying to shape itself to my needs, because I have to look up all KINDS of bonkers things, and no computer can predict what they might be. Just give me an accurate search engine, please. And no ADs!

See apostrophes, commas, all fucking punctuation in fact, what's the bloody point of any of it, was I the only one paying attention in school, you CRETINS?

@RockyC@fosstodon.org We've seen how long forever judgements last in the New America - it's until the next regime arrives and undoes everything they don't like about the previous regime. That's precedent. Undo the pardons, re-launch the investigations, roll back the fines and prison sentences, remove the immunities.

@tommorris@mastodon.social When I heard about this, I did assume it's partly racism, but I ALSO assumed it was about fraud. because here in Canada there's been a fuss about companies like Rogers and Telus outsourcing their "Customer Service" to India and other countries because it's cheaper for them. If you mask the fact the person is from another country, you're pretending you spend more on customer Service WHILE STILL SAVING MONEY AND PROVIDING A SHITTY SERVICE. Double win for the company.

Just a reminder that in English , "then" is to do with time or order of things, and "than" is comparative. This is important for sayings like "It is better to die on your feet, than to live on your knees." Because of you change that to "then" it's just nonsense.
Also, chairs don't have any gender in English. Phew! You just use "the" for everything!

@fsinn Reading stuff like this, I am reminded of Billy Connelly talking about Reagan : "He's got the button there, the one that could blow us all up! My dad is younger than him, and we don't give him the remote control for the telly!" No one is going to forget that America put this toddler in charge, or forgive the damage he's done. He's sunk America's reputation for decades at the very least.

Traveling to work on the Skytrain this morning, there was a woman further down the carriage who had my first name tattooed on her neck. I didn't take a picture because Duh, what would be more creepy? But it was strange. Growing up, after the Omen films, my name was a joke, a punchline. Now it's turning up in unexpected places. A character in the TV adaptation of Day of the Jackal. In Dungeon Crawler Carl. Feels odd.
Anyone out there know any Damians?
