*gently grabs the cheeks of all programmers to stare deeply into their eyes* All I want is a dry tech manual. A boring, well indexed manual that defines every function. Not a chatbot. Not a training. Not a million "articles" that I have to search through. Not a "community forum". My rice cooker came with one. I want one for every piece of software I have to interact with. Go get yourself a technical writer if necessary. I. Want. An. Instructional. Manual.

Antisemitism; slur; KKK: don't let this shit creep into leftist spaces
"Zio" is an antisemitic slur coined by David Duke, former KKK Grand Wizard. This term is creeping into left spaces focusing on justice for Palestine, so I beg you to reject this literally KKK terminology whenever and wherever you encounter it.

I can buy any scent of soap I want. I can choose between a million different black eyeliners. I can choose one of thousands of styles of glasses for prescription lenses.

So, why are all the disability aid devices ugly as sin? Why can't my mom buy a stylish wheelchair or rollator? Grab bars with pizzazz?

Make disability aids stylish! There is no good reason to make disability aid devices depression gray or ennui eggshell.

I am begging everyone to start treating their IDs like it's your most embarrassing, job hunt squashing photo: only to be shown to others under duress. Do not show it to anyone who just asks. We need to stop normalizing needing identification for everyday shit. Papers, please societies are nazi societies

@blogdiva@mastodon.social Famine in your ancestry will generally cause your body to store up more potential energy (fat), so you can survive the next famine. Better nutrition will make a larger skeleton. Bigger skeletons need bigger shoes. Humans generally get larger each generation, not smaller. But fashion doesn't. Especially since we transferred from buying clothes made for us based on our measurements (whether that's homemade or atelier made) to off the rack clothing where everything is a set range of sizes. The fashion industry has no monetary incentive to update these standards because the majority of people no longer have the skills to make clothes at home and nudity is not permitted in most public spaces.

@farbel@mas.to @selzero@syzito.xyz This metaphor assumes the bus is going anywhere remotely close to where I want to go. What if all the bus lines take me further from where I want to go relative to where I am currently but where I want to go is further than I can walk? This is like forcing someone to get on a bus regardless of whether or not that bus will actually get them close enough to their destination, and screaming at someone for choosing to walk instead of getting on the bus.

@beeoproblem @devxvda Ah, but during this time period, enjoyment of any kind was considered a "gateway drug" to more enjoyment. If you LIKE your food, you might seek out other forms of indulgence. It's a pretty fascinating part of American medical history. My great grandfather was a doctor in the same town at the same time as Kellogg. My mom tells me he side eyed Kellogg's whole operation but never said anything because Kellogg was a famous doctor (not even sure if he was an MD) who was nationally recognized as superior. While Kellogg was boofing yogurt, my great grandfather was making house calls to farmers with horse and cart to do normal doctor things.

What's my cat's favorite cat food flavor?

Theft.

Doesn't matter if he's got the same food as or other cat or not. It tastes better stolen.

In the past month, he's earned some new nicknames:

Ranch Bandit aka rancho bandito
Prosciutto Thief
Counter pirate

He's old enough that he's been put on a kidney health diet and is now in his yolo era

@idzie@kolektiva.social I live by an international port under the eye of a snowcapped volcano, surrounded by pine trees, where the crows, seagulls, and dark eyed juncos live year-round and the hummingbirds visit every spring and summer. The summer days are so much longer than the winter days that seasonal circadian rhythms conflict with modern expectations of maintaining the same hours year-round. The sky is often painted with grey clouds, but on clear days the sky turns a brilliant blue. Coyotes roam freely and deer walk between the shadows of the trees. With the mountains to my back, I look across the ocean.

Excuse me while I cannot feign outrage at Trump bringing back the firing squad for state executions.

If the State is going to execute people, which it shouldn't, it should absolutely be by firing squad.

The other options are far more gruesome and painful. The electric chair is torture and was phased out for lethal injection *which is an awful way to die*

Legal injection is for the benefit of the executioner, not the human being executed. Often, the cocktail involves a paralyzing agent so the prisoner is immobile while in excruciating pain. Due to the Hippocratic oath, medical providers will not participate in this brutality, so the doses are not always correct or administered correctly. States that use this method often have to rely on the black market because legitimate pharmacies won't help them. Drugs could be painless (like how veterinarians euthanize animals), where the person goes to sleep and never wakes up, but that goes against the Hippocratic oath.

Hanging requires a specialist who can do the proper mathematics to make the drop snap the neck for an instant death. Leaving someone to dangle while the oxygen in their blood depletes is grotesque and cruel torture. Hanging a heavy person can result in unintentional decapitation.

State executions are psychologically damaging to the executioners, which is why executions are done with a squad rather than one person with a gun. Not every squad member has a loaded gun when they fire so none of them knows who fired the fatal shot. This reduces the psychological harm. Death by firing squad is usually instant (unless you have piss poor shooters), and therefore less painful.

If you must have state executions, firing squads are the most ethical of the available options.

That said, no one should give the state power over life and death for any reason.

Quantum Fiber, I have turned y'all down every time. FOMO doesn't work on me for freaking Internet service providers.

I miss the Internet as a public utility mindset that the town I grew up in had. Paid it with your power and water bill and free Wi-Fi all over town. Then Republicans ruined it.

I research everything before I change things, and I do not make decisions on my porch.

Well, I'm glad I got fed up with buying sponges years ago and switched to homemade crochet 100% cotton dishcloths.

https://mstdn.social/@primonatura/116289701485683274

Crochet seems to hold up better than knit even with the same yarn. Use a smaller hook than you normally would for that weight of yarn.

I use solid colors for the kitchen and multi colored yarns for the shower. You can do squares for the kitchen and circles for the bathroom. Whatever works for you.

Ideal starter project for learning crochet. It doesn't matter if it's a bit wonky, you're using it to scrub the beans off a plate, not hanging it up for display.

@angelteeth you're not alone. I'm horrified that the company policy is to treat human beings as robots and that they have the audacity to have policies in place requiring workers to go back to work like their coworker isn't lying dead on the floor. I am also horrified that we have conditioned people to comply with those policies. Horrified that the supervisor actually gave the instructions to just look away and get back to work. And I'm horrified that anyone would prioritize their Amazon warehouse job over rendering medical aid to a coworker. Horrified that the worker would feel compelled to comply instead of shoving the supervisor out of the way. I'm so disappointed in Americana. I thought the one thing that united us was a "fuck you, make me" attitude when it comes to authority.

@collective_truth@mastodon.social The point is that consumer culture prioritizes style for items abled people use daily, and de-prioritizes style in necessities for disabled people - things people have to look at or interact with every day. It contributes to feelings of being overlooked and unvalued. It others people because it assumes that the majority of people will not become disabled, when that is just not true. If you live long enough, you will outlive your body's ability. It's a byproduct of a culture that used to have ugly laws and hide the disabled away in homes or asylums.

Approximately $64k per year. https://www.salary.com/research/salary/posting/longshoreman-salary/tacoma-wa That is not "extremely well paid" in this region. Extremely well paid is a *salary* above $1M (40-50 thousand individuals in the state of Washington make million plus salary).
