"Apple's greatest accomplishment isn't technological, it's psychological. Apple managed to convince millions of people that buying products from a multi-trillion dollar corporation with close ties to both Trump and Xi makes them members of an oppressed religious minority, and those members of the "cult of Mac" tie themselves into knots insisting that Apple would only ever use its powers for good:"

@inthehands@hachyderm.io one of our coping strategies is to actually read a physical dead trees newspaper. Importantly, not a daily newspaper, but a weekly publication. By the time that comes around, they've had some time to digest the news and filter out most of the day to day screaming and non issues. And articles tend to be better researched and more fleshed out / of durable importance.

@pjf the city of Zürich has an amazing service to solve this problem: you go forage to your heart's content and then bring the bounty to an expert who'll sort out the unsafe ones for free.

@permafriday@indieweb.social @keepandroidopen@techhub.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr ... and is a strong incentive to go with a web app instead of a native one. Arguably the way the ecosystem should have evolved in the first place. So let's hope that this move will just destroy demand for native apps.
(It's still a bad move that Google should be sued for)

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place I'd live there. Although it does seem to be a bit short on water at the moment.

@paco @davidgerard I believe burning money by destroying actual physical currency is illegal. Now if we could only make the other kind of burning money also illegal? ...

@mattblaze@federate.social you do seem to be rather easy to troll and rile up 😜 fwiw, sensible people agree with your position, so maybe not engaging the trolls is the best course of action?

@k3ym0@infosec.exchange that's been my thinking about prepper culture in general. What's their scenario? Outlive everyone else by a few weeks by hiding alone in their bunker?
In general, the things that make you most resilient in a disaster are the same things you need for a good life anyways. Good health. Robust relationships with family and friends. Nurture those as disaster preparedness.
