mastodon 4.6.4He/him/they/whatever. Bostonian, writer, teacher, parent, spouse. Fan of public libraries, public transit, horror movies, punk rock, and bikes. Also admin of this here instance. It turns out hosting and storage are expensive, so I'm gonna have to be kind of stingy with follows, especially if you post a lot of media. But folks who want to interact are always welcome!
I have a minor knee injury and have a small amount of constant pain, and it has made everyone and everything so irritating. Shoutout to everyone with chronic pain for not killing us all
Here's what I think USians struggle with: there is no one thing you can do that's going to fix everything. Protest, voting, mutual aid, whatever--none of these things are the ONLY solution. If the tide turns it will be because lots of people did lots of things. So yes, you're right that [insert activity here] isn't the solution, but you're asking the wrong question. Does it have the potential to make anything a little better?
Why the hell, with an enormous electoral mandate, has Michelle Wu abandoned her progressive priorities for Boston? I have ideas: https://write.as/brendanhalpin/whats-wrong-with-michelle-wu
Never wanted to learn to code for any reason, but seeing everyone dragging the absolute shit out of the Claude code makes me wish I could understand more than just the profanity. (which is very well done across the board, btw)
Said it before and I'll say it again--the most fucked up, disturbing genre is cozy mystery. "There's violence and death, but don't worry--it's delightful!" Chilling.
It’s Bandcamp Friday! What’s everybody buying?

Alpha School, the "disruptive" AI-centered institutional learning facility, is coming to Boston. I looked into it and it's even worse than it initially appears! https://write.as/brendanhalpin/alpha-school-ai-scam-comes-to-boston

I do not owe you a review any time I purchase a good or service! I exchanged money for what you are selling. And here our business relationship ends. I don’t work for free!
Might fuck around and pitch a wang dang doodle
I heard about how there are a lot of vacant apartments in Boston but rents aren't coming down which is weird because about a million white guys told me again and again that housing was a simple problem of supply and demand.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a serial killer origin story.
Shouting out everybody with complicated or just bad relationships with their mom, everybody with a dead mom, everybody else who feels excluded today. Hi!
10 years since Prince died. Here's my recommendation for 80 minutes of great Prince songs from the 1990's. https://write.as/brendanhalpin/prince-in-the-90s

I dunno, I can't get too happy about anybody in the Trump admin getting fired. They'll all get handed high-paying, low-work jobs with way less public scrutiny and therefore improve their quality of life.
The "rules" of spelling and usage are entirely fake. How can you tell? Take this quick quiz!
1.Who made the rules?
2. Who gave them the authority to make those rules?
If your answers are, "I dunno, Warriner or Strunk & White?" and "Nobody, I guess," what you have are not rules, but rather AGREEMENTS. 1/2
Sister killed her baby cause she couldn’t afford to feed it and we’re sending people to the moon
In September my cousin tried reefer for the very first time. Now he’s doin’ horse. It’s June

Annual reminder that “ha ha, I got you to believe a thing” isn’t a joke, it’s a power play.

I'm not gonna stan rich people or pro athletes, or people who drive impaired, but the Tiger Woods thing reveals how cops work the media. "He had pills in his pocket!" Okay. That's not illegal. What's the point of releasing that detail?
Are there any iOS games that aren’t scammy bullshit?

Well, if you had "The Strokes put out a single that sounds kinda like Ween" on your 2026 bingo card, congrats!
(I like it, btw. Love when bands throw curve balls)
