een prachtig insect - a beautiful insect:
English Translation:
The Bee Beetle** (Trichius fasciatus) is a beetle species from the family of scarab beetles (Scarabaeidae).. These beetles belong to the genus Trichius, species of which are often recognizable by their hairy elytra (wing covers) featuring yellow colors and prominent black spots that form incomplete bands. Due to their hairy appearance and the fact that they resemble a fluffy bee when viewed from the side, they are known in English as the "Bee Beetle".
In the Netherlands and Belgium, Trichius gallicus occurs alongside Trichius fasciatus. These two species are difficult to distinguish; often microscopic examination of the genitalia is required for certain identification, although T. gallicus is usually distinguished by the fact that the front black band on the elytra does not continue across. However, the lifestyle and biology of both species are approximately the same.
