I think 53 pumpkins should get us comfortably through the winter for pumpkin pie. Even more left on the vines but I'm not sure they will fully ripen as the vines are beginning to die. All this from just 3 plants. Maybe next year I'll settle on just one. #garden #harvest

I can't remember where I got this information, but I heard that it's best to leave as much of the stem as possible when harvesting winter squashes. Here can be seen that small pieces of the vine were left attached so that the entire stem is intact. I believe it's supposed to help with long-term storage. BTW, this is a mini variety of butternut called "Butter Baby". We like them. #Gardening#Allotment#NewEngland#GYO#GrowYourOwn#Squash#Harvest
