Choosing a Linux distro to stay Hello everyone, I need help to decide on a Linux Distribution to settle and finally stop distro hopping. I have quite some experience with Linux(1year Mint, a quarter year Arch, nixos, manjaro, fedora, suse tumbleweed and kalpa…)I have been experimenting for now almost 3 years. Now I finally want to setlle but I just don’t know where. I like Nix’s shell but don’t like installing everything in five steps(with git because my brain can stand neither the dirty tree warning nor leaving out on the git push) and I don’t need the reproducibility. I like rolling so I don’t need to reinstall or do any major update, but even more appealing is low maintenance and stability in the sense of nothing unexpectedly breaking. I’ll use the computer as an daily driver mostly for programming & 3d design, university related work, streaming and also some gaming. Thank you for your answers. #linux #distrohopping

I’ve been running Fedora (atomic & workstation) on my main pc the last couple years. This was originally to get wayland compatible nvidia drivers that I couldn’t run on my beloved Debian, but I have an AMD GPU now… I’m tiring of the churn of a Fedora install now and thinking of #DistroHopping again. I want a boring (positive) OS again… Debian on my other PC is still stable and reliable. Give me your boring (laudatory) #Linux desktop recommendations. Is NixOS boring (complimentary)?

I keep building systems for my ideal self, the one with consistent energy, perfect executive function, and endless motivation to maintain complex infrastructure. Then my actual self shows up and just wants Debian to work. The cycle taught me something: each experiment wasn't wasted. Gentoo, Nix, LFS, they all made me better at understanding why simple works. Building for your future self is smart. Building for a different person entirely is exhaustion. #DistroHopping #SelfHosting #Linux

Post 1 of 2: While distro-hopping and hunting for "latest" packages, I really should just step back. I love Debian. No other distro has the community and governance of Debian. The thing I've always disliked is the staleness of being "stable." But really, there are only a few packages that I want to be absolutely newest, and they are: Librewolf Proton Mail/Pass/VPN Vestkop Of course there are other nice to haves, but those are the ones I use the most. #Debian #DistroHopping
