@kim_harding@mastodon.scot I’d been looking for an epithet to concisely describe Palantir to friends…
“a heavy-handed American entity with uncomfortably close ties to U.S. intelligence” just about fits the bill.

@sue And this principle can apply at least as much in relying on LLMs for ‘plain text’ writing as for code; ignoring the importance of the reader. In putting down explanations on the page it seems like you’re creating a mental model of your topic and also exploring how to conjure this in the minds of the reader. Software as a branch of literature.

Well done Faisal Islam for keeping the CEO of ARM supplied with insightful questions in his World Service interview. My temptation would have been to say “If you use the ‘CPU is a brain’ metaphor one more time I’m pouring my latte over you.”
Quite how ARM managed to get itself owned by SoftBank defeats me.
Anyway…
“people will freak out and say ‘AI's dead’, which is complete nonsense because it's only going to get better from here …so I don't worry about it too much”
