@tessarakt@mastodon.social @krupo@infosec.exchange @pluralistic@mamot.fr DATEV does the same stuff any big cooperate does. Rent instead of buy your software. Put everything in an US cloud. If you want to leave, to bad. Pay to export your data in a format no other tool can read, because they never released the specs. Edit: For some reason the "critic" section is only present in the German version of Wikipedia. Yes, it is a cooperation of accountant companies, but that does not automatically makes them ethical and open. The already fought and lost one anti-monopoly / price gauging lawsuit. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/DATEV#Kritik

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Is there any source for this? I checked several British and European news outlets and none did mention that.

@kirschner 460M€ => Senior Dev is about 100k€. This equals about 5000 Senior Devs, full time. I bet that amount of devs would make a lot of really, really good software.

@rrustema020 @notjustbikes Another point for EU regulations. You can't have that here. This vehicle size is considered a truck / lorry and must have mirrors or other devices to see right in front of it. I is so dumb, this kind of vehicle is allowed on a road. They are just accidents waiting to happen, specially in area with foot traffic like parking lots. Not to mention the shear size of parking spaces and fuel consumption for nothing but the small ego of the owners. I can see much better from the seat of a European truck than a normal car, as there is a special mirror. My instructor in driving school told me not to drive to close to the cars in front of me at stops, because they have less visual orientation than I do. And for some reason a truck stopping 50cm behind them makes normal drivers uncomfortable.

@anteumbra@yiff.life Most is said already. Important thing from my side: Try not get to enthusiastic and take breaks before breaking down. - Even if your are having fun and everything feels nice you spend your energy. Second: If the Con was good, prepare for post con depression and have a plan to deal with that. If the con was awesome, the hole after that can feel really deep.

@lethe@chaos.social @blue1337blood@nerdculture.de Recht aktueller Artikel dazu.

@stib@aus.social @bencourtice@aus.social @jonshell@mastodon.energy Technology can be used one way or another. Thats why I used the gas cylinder example. You pay a one time deposit and keep as long as you need it. Without any costs. Then you change it at a dealer for a full one. This system works fine.

I guess you won't need venture capital at the current point. Nio is on a good way to set the standard. What means in a few years you either sell a car in China with a Nio-compatible battery or you don't sell cars at all. After that it is just a matter of time until thats adopted outside China.

I would compare that technology cycle to something like the VHS / Betamax wars. You win the country with the biggest market and go downhill from there.

@stib@aus.social @jonshell@mastodon.energy The issue is scale. The Idea is not new. There was a startup in Israel and one in Europe. But they failed.

The infrastructure only works if you have a standard and enough power to enforce it. Nio has that kind of more or less state backed power to set the standard. Other car makers have to follow that after it is established. After that threshold is crossed battery changing becomes common as fuel pumps.

But with a whole flock of car makers who not even want EVs there is no chance to get over the threshold for it work.

And no, you do not need the "rent-a-battery" model for that. You can also pay a deposit and for a battery once. - Same modell as used for gas-cylinders.
