Thousands of people figuring it out together is how the internet used to be. 💙

I know it’s still technically #caturday on the west coast, but Klaus is such a good boy.

#Protip: If you have two #Mastodon accounts and link to each of them respectively in your profile metadata using the profile URL, then they will verify each other. ✅

Good memories.

@dkiesow@social.kiesow.net @palafo@mstdn.social yeah, that is what happens in practice. In Mastodon lore, a group of literal neo nazis started their own explicitly nazi instance, and basically the entire network just instantly blocked them.

@justinhendrix@mastodon.social omfg, are you serious

Engagement on Mastodon is SO MUCH HIGHER than engagement on Twitter. I had 6x the followers on Twitter when these were posted last night.

Please don't put the :verified: emoji in your name/bio—this isn't Twitter, and we have alternative frameworks for trust. That emoji means nothing at best, and at worst it conditions your followers to trust bad actors/impersonators. #TwitterMigration

@markhertling@mstdn.social we have a great mail-in system in WA. I checked mine too—accepted!

@VinnyTheeKnighted@bardown.space @SmkstkMcFlapJak@toot.community BitTorrent and Usenet still work great 😂

@palafo@mstdn.social that’s kind of what Gab is, from what I gather. I think they federate with some other “extreme free speech” instances. Nothing can stop them from building their own network. https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2019/07/statement-on-gabs-fork-of-mastodon/

@npcox@mstdn.social you can select the visibility for each toot when posting. On most servers "mentioned people only" is equivalent to a DM, and those toots show up under "Direct messages."

Important distinction from Twitter—if you mention someone else in a DM, they will receive that message!

Also keep in mind that DMs are NOT encrypted on here and server admins can see them.

@Supertran@mastodon.social for sure!

@deidyomega@tech.lgbt yeah I know but still. 😂

@brettnelson@mstdn.social thank you!
