If AI is so great, why does it always seem to be on the side of fascism? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yj97yd6v5o
Managed to snag a (signed!) copy of Diversifying Open Source from the amazing Paloma Oliveira at #FOSSBackstage
I made it to Shanghai. Entering China without needing to get a visa first feels like a super power. Currently standing around waiting for the airport maglev to open. I could just take the metro but … maglev!
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie review – bland screensaver of a movie that’s actually worse than AI”
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/mar/31/the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-review-sequel-video-game-chris-pratt-charlie-day I have no intention of watching this film, but I love that “worse than AI” is now a bar by which we universally recognise mediocrity.
Ah Gatwick. It’s like someone took a regular airport and turned up the Hell.
Reminder : if you live in England and you’re planning to vote in the local elections today, take an acceptable form of ID. https://www.gov.uk/how-to-vote/photo-id-youll-need 🗳️
Distributed some pins to @ab@w3c.social members present at this week’s @w3c@w3c.social Advisory Committee meeting week. (Thanks to @amyvdh@mastodon.social !)
Hidde @hdv@mastodon.social kicking off the @w3cdevs@w3c.social developer meet-up in Hangzhou, preceding our Advisory Committee and @ab@w3c.social meeting week. Who better to cover the topic of AI and the Web, and web standards - the good, the bad and the ugly?
My ride for the next 11 hours is here. Next stop, Shanghai. On Sunday I’ll be taking the high speed train to Hangzhou for W3C’s Advisory Committee meeting – and our @ab@w3c.social face-to-face.
#FOSSBackstage kicking off with a call to resist rising nationalism that seeks to divide us, and instead come together as community. Nice!
Images from the Sanrio exhibit I managed to see in Tokyo, "The Beginning of Kawaii." I especially like the "Happy Something" lunch box! This exhibit runs until June at the Mori Arts Center Gallery. (Bonus: you get a great view from the 52nd floor of the Mori tower in Roppongi.) https://macg.roppongihills.com/en/exhibitions/sanrio-final-ex/
OK! My talks for @linuxfoundation@social.lfx.dev Open Source Summit North America and @openssf@social.lfx.dev community day North America in May have both been accepted, so it looks like I'm going to Minneapolis! 😳
I just received a conformation of my voter registration for the upcoming UK election. On the back, it lists the *many* forms of ID that are acceptable to identify yourself at the polling station. These include transit cards, driving licenses, etc... etc... I don't agree with voter ID (as I think it solves a non-existent problem, and we should be making voting *easter*, not more difficult). But I'm glad they're trying to make voter ID easier, especially for older people. #UKPol
Delivered my talk on C2PA to the "Web Evolve" @w3c@w3c.social event here in Hangzhou. (There was human-powered translation provided.) https://www.w3.org/events/happenings/2026/webevolve-w3c-open-day-web-standards-forum/
Heading back to London after a lovely 2 days at @FOSSBackstage@floss.social. Such an amazing event, and community! 🙏
What should I ask the @tag@w3c.social tonight at their meet-up event? Got any burning questions for web standards makers? @w3cdevs@w3c.social
Have found my new fav pizza in London - for take-away, anyway. Yard Sale Pizza opened near us. I walked over to collect, but they do delivery in-house (no delivery apps). Ordering and payment through the web – again, no app. And most importantly, the pizza is good! 🍕 https://yardsalepizza.com
On my way to Shanghai Hongqiao station (on Shanghai’s great metro 🚇 - that accepts tap-to-pay!) to catch a high speed train to Hangzhou 🚄.
The end of the time vortex means my regular 8am Thursday call with Korea is now at 9am – which has thrown my *whole morning* off!
Signed up for "Making Tax Digital." Wasn't tax already digital? Why did it need to be more digital than it was before?
State of the Browser kicking off in London and I’ve already seen so many lovely web people I know. The room is packed and it's also great to see how many hands went up when @dletorey@front-end.social asked “who is here for the first time?” #stateofthebrowser
