@cmconseils please, please fix: zaporizhzhia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaporizhzhia by continuing to misname #ukrainian toponyms by their russian aliases or (in this case) phonetical variants we are supporting russian aggressive imperialism and fascism.

@AaronDavid@beige.party with all due respect, both were usa citizens (aka «americans») born late in 19th century and thus neither of them had to fight to defend their loved, their nation on their land from an agression. there’s war as last defence, when either you fight – or your people are exterminated. edit: removed unnecessary, overly agressive final phrase.

@cstross yeah, i’ve tried fantasizing smth like that (only without murder). however, let’s not underestimate human intelligence. a morning routine where 100 richest assholes share 1/100 of their riches each, and the richest one gives a 1/100th extra, to make some random dude go today, then it gets automated, and bingo. we all, each of us carry the seed of evil.

@lkundrak wearing a swastika patch doesn’t kill anyone per se, and yet we don’t do and dont permit it for a reason. sometimes rising against a simple json field is an important political stance, as is making fun of those who do.

this sounds as a good idea at first. until one tries to _really_ think about it. should we also «regulate» breweries to only sell milk instead of beer? should be «regulate» bars and other adults-only establishments instead of keeping kids out? if it's true that kids _will_ find their way in, it's also true that stupid, greedy, dishonest and simply evil people _will_ fibd their way around any half-measure regulations to mess with the kids' brains. i hate «social media» and i'd rather see all the facebooks & tiktoks and (sic!) youtubes burn in hell, but this is not the point at the moment. the point is: more regulation instead of «banning kids» would not solve the problem, it would only give bigtech even more power over people. imho.

someone has to read this carefully, with calm and scientific objectivity, extensive technical experience and passionate yet precise phylosopher's ability to dissect, generalize and explain.

maybe @baldur@toot.cafe , @tante , @ploum@mamot.fr …

i'm too biased and not clever enough, and above all i suddenly lack motivation for this, but it seems important. this is _not_ a random llm-optimist's opinion:

1965–2026: so, the american (us’ian) democracy has only lasted for 61 years; there are still people alive in usa who witnessed both its birth and premature death.

@phileas@infosec.exchange i’m a huge fan of the old unix principle; being able to fit one more function into an already complex tool doesn’t mean it’s a good idea, for reasons. thanks for the suggestion; i might still go with devuan and one of supported inits but i’m curious and will definitely check out finit too.

@AeonCypher@lgbtqia.space i am seriously recoursing to the strongest example i could find of men taking a desperate last stand in the face of many others who would not, and did not let it go unpunished. despite the dramatic contrast in scale, as the other commenter points out, the basic act of «doing something» as a symbol of resistance even when it is known to fail except as a symbol, is the same in both cases. look, my comment worked because of its grotesque disproportion, it made you want to make fun of me =) i’ve been following you on fediverse for quite some time and usually enjoyed your posts; that is why i am suprized by this lack of understanding (it’s actually lack of desire to understand, since the idea is not complex): people who «refuse to use #ai» are not refusing to use llm-based tools per se; the refuse to use services built on others’ work without conscent or compensation, without respect for privacy, built with neglect to disastrous aftermath in education and politics, built with conscious displacement of extremely expensive externalities on societies, built for concentrating even more power to already overpowered few. sometimes, making others make a wry face by doing something se evidenlty «useless» is the only thing a person with ethics is left with.

@juliank@mastodon.social as soon as you replace all euphemisms and obfuscation language with normal words, you’ll be terrified by what you’re saying. A euphemism is a mild or indirect word used in place of a harsh, offensive, or blunt term. While euphemisms can be polite, they often function as linguistic obfuscation—softening reality to make something bad seem less severe, evade responsibility, or manipulate perception. https://www.skool.com/the-stoic-forge/euphemism-as-obfuscation-softening-language-to-hide-the-truth «we have a moral imperative» – we want to be able to simply ignore your opinion and «llm» = centralized proprietary services based on ml/llm that ignore copyright and privacy, centralize power and money in the hands of a few bigtech players, endanger social balance, education, threaten to destabilize entire global economy, add to ecology threats, etc. «I don’t personally buy into the copyright aspect much» – i don’t care if people consent or get paid for their work «exploit free and heavily subsidized tracks financed by loads of venture capitalist money» – participate in rent & extraction scheme «creates other moral conundrums» – is immoral Why euphemistic obfuscation is dangerous Moral numbing – Makes atrocities sound acceptable.Accountability evasion – Lets powerful people avoid blame.Manipulates consent – Tricks people into supporting harmful policies.Distorts reality – Replaces truth with comfortable illusions. https://www.skool.com/the-stoic-forge/euphemism-as-obfuscation-softening-language-to-hide-the-truth #llm
