Making things out of other things.
Previously: Made some apps. Worked at Apple on UIKit for a while.

Time to break out the ‘sporting events antenna’ and hook it up to the TV.
Looks like the USA match today and the Scotland match tomorrow are both free to view on Fox.
Much of the ‘don’t use AI’ discourse doesn’t fully account for the fact that the web has, at this point, largely been ruined by AI slop and, before it, SEO spam.
For example, I’m building a shed with concrete block foundations on gravel pads. Some of the blocks are hollow. Should I fill them with concrete?
Any search for this just produces reams and reams of slop and spam, with advice ranging from ‘absolutely yes and you will die if you don’t because they will not be strong enough and fall apart’ to ‘no that’s a terrible idea they’ll fall apart in winter if you don’t leave them hollow’. Or both in the same ‘article’.
I don’t think the web used to be like this.
Claude gives a nuanced answer that *sounds* true (it’ll make them a bit stronger, but they don’t need to be stronger).
Basically any search for technical advice is similar. The only sources left that give advice from humans are YouTube (and similarly but less good, TikTok etc), the few still-standing web forums, and Reddit. Or books.
Wow, this is just crazy. And cruel.
I think immigration in this country needs comprehensive reform that includes ways for the undocumented to become documented, legitimate immigrants. And I think there are legitimate debates to be had about how to do that. But, for what it’s worth, people applying for green cards while in the USA are, as they say, ‘waiting in line and doing it the right way’.
The headline for this investigation by the BBC really does not do the article justice. Russia is behind *so much stuff*. It’s like the plot for a Slow Horses season except much less coherent.
@divya@sfba.social When we sold our house in Sunnyvale, the initial buyers suddenly pulled out *after* the offer was fully accepted (like, after they were technically legally obliged to buy it) because they discovered it was ‘near a superfund site’.
I sometimes wonder what they did next, because it’s not really possible to find a house in the South Bay that isn’t.
@drahardja@sfba.social They don’t look like they’re any further on than when I watched eight hours ago!
This is like a kid ‘tidying their room’ for hours - and whenever a parent looks in they pick something up: “What?!!! I’m DOOING IT!”
@seanreilly@mastodon.social It would need enforcement somehow - I’m sure many of the slop purveyors would just get (or steal) one.
:-(
End of an era!
@drahardja@sfba.social The current administration doesn’t do strategy, it exclusively does tactics.
@acf@masto.alancfrancis.com @jeffwatkins@mastodon.social FWIW, my mum used to put a sprig of fresh mint in with the potatoes when making boiled potatoes when I was growing up. I don’t *think* she does it any more.
‘Lotek_Design’ brought his #Zelda Link to the Past clock to the #AshevilleMakers meetup last night - and it was if anything even more impressive in person than in pictures or videos.
The casing was so well made, and the display so smooth and bright looking. Amazing project.

@Shadowfetch@indieweb.social I agree with your conclusion there - but I think you replied to the wrong post!
