I appreciate you acknowledging this.
There are plenty of patriotic Americans still around, but absolutely none of us are the chest-beating imbeciles shitting on our allies and commitments while performatively waving an American flag.
And, yes, I worry about us emulating Putin's Russia. Unlike Russia, our military has extensive conventional power and can greatly harm the world - not just our immediate neighbors.

@hongminhee @Gargron Coincidentally, I've been enjoying a YouTube series by a couple of women who escaped North Korea and settled in South Korea in their late teens.
Their English is pretty rudimentary, so they use AI translation (presumably LLM-based, written and vocal) to communicate with their (mostly American) audience. The degree of cultural interchange has been wonderful and illuminating and my world as a monolingual person would be smaller and less-informed without it.
Way back in the day (mid-to-late-'90s), when I was a teen running a small dial-up BBS and a lot of my friends were from that world, we would often call ourselves - I kid you not - "modemers.”
We didn't typically use it as a verb, but I wouldn't be surprised if some people did. @marioguzman@mastodon.social
Looks like Trump "taco'd" on Iran, for the time being at least. Good.
This still isn't tenable, though. Nobody should have wonder whether the day will end without one's President launching a campaign of genocide against another country's people.
Congress needs to remove this menace from power now. The Mad King taking us to this point is more than enough justification for impeachment.

Using “claude --dangerously-skip-permissions" is absolutely liberating, but don't dare run it outside of a VM or containerized environment lest there be potential for Bad Things™ to happen.

@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social Data point: I inherited my dad's old (gasoline-powered) Chevy Silverado a number of years ago. Not having a need or a place for a large pickup truck and being a chronic procrastinator, I promptly parked it in a vehicle storage yard and let it sit completely unused for ~4 years.
When I finally got around to getting it ready to sell, I had a dead battery to contend with... but once I got that going it started up and ran just fine.
