@nickchomey @jimniels Things like datastar / livewire / etc... are always the wrong solution to the wrong problem. They don't simplify things, they hide complexity behind magic (even more hidden complexity). Don't couple your user's UI to schrodinger's server connection to create a more brittle ``, just use the `` instead. But since this is a menu, you **should** be using a `` and progressively enhance with `aria-expanded`. You are looking at accessibility too right?

@bw Warm Burnout seems less accessible than something like gruvbox: https://github.com/morhetz/gruvbox Yes, the colors in Warm Burnout pass the WCAG test, but that's based on the assumption of one text color drawn above one background color. Code requires many colors that contrast against each other drawn above one background color. Warm Burnout's "Aged Brass" color is less than 2 degrees away in hue from its "Gold" color. Gruvbox's two closest colors: "dark green" and "dark aqua" are 36 degrees apart

Notches remind me of this bench.

It's basically the hostile architecture of user experience. If I want to full screen anything, part of it is getting cut off.

Better hope nothing important was under that notch.

@db First: Perfect, I was looking at adding skiplists to my current project. I was going to use the method on https://ffoodd.github.io/a11y.css/ Second: Dude, that footer is amazing.

This CSS file intends to warn developers about possible risks and mistakes that exist in HTML code. It can also be used to roughly evaluate a site

@littledan@hachyderm.io My thoughts about things that involve software devs:

  1. All code created by public funds must be open source. (exceptions for national security, infohazards, etc...)

  2. Whistleblower protections

  3. Fines against those who threaten security researchers who are acting in good faith.

  4. Security/privacy negligence results in possible blacklisting and fines.

  5. All fines are placed into a single fund which pays out to maintainers of open source projects used by the government

@b0rk@social.jvns.ca I really want to like helix, but I can't get into it without a dedicated file tree picker. Fuzzy finding is useless when you work with others and don't know what files exist in a project. And mutliplexing with other file picker programs in the terminal is too brittle and sharp-edged. I know we'll eventually get a file tree picker in helix when the plugin system is released but it's been years and that makes me sad.

@chfkch@ruhr.social @b0rk@social.jvns.ca Sharp edged in terms of: different programs fighting for the same shortcuts which have different ways to set preferences which are stored in different places. Not to mention that an editor shouldn’t also impose other tools be required on an environment to have a good workflow. Forcing users into that imposition smacks of "You're holding the phone wrong" from the iPhone 4 days.

@chfkch@ruhr.social @b0rk@social.jvns.ca Brittle in terms of: everything is extremely specific to that environment. One tiny imperceptible change between environments is all it takes for things to fall apart in unpredictable and hard to debug ways at unpredictable times. One environment may have different things setup from before that conflicts with the other. Sure you could have everything set up in a reproducible environment, but now your solution is no longer general across environments which is what we really want.

@kizu@front-end.social Absolutely masterful. I thought the cyclic dependencies article pushing css as far as it would go, was great but only in the "academic / no-real-world-use" sense. But then I saw all these techniques pushed together and all of a sudden we get this thing that is a great work in the "I can't wait to use this" sense. Well done!

@brad_frost

  1. Programming is all about writing instructions to get the result you want.
  2. It's never the computer's fault. Computers don't make mistakes, they do exactly what they are programmed to do.

Then (depending on how much time you have)...

@brad_frost you could play a game with them on the board where you draw two checkerboard/gameboard states and they all need to figure out the instructions to get from the starting state to the end state.

And if you want audience participation:

  1. You could also get them to each draw their own states
  2. Pass the states to someone else and figure out and write down the instructions before giving them back
  3. Get them to perform their partner's instructions to see if they get the end state

@chfkch@ruhr.social @b0rk@social.jvns.ca What we really want is one single seamless binary that can useful without external tools. A built-in file tree explorer will help immensely. But the core dev can't support that on their own so it's being shifted over to the plugin side. IMO this is probably best for the early life of this project since different implementations can compete and inspire each-other until we have a really solid file picker to eventually build in to the editor.

@aardrian I DM'd my first TPK on the weekend. The party went into an abandoned mine to try and figure out why the town had a magical effect cast over it. They encountered a demilich in its lair with minions. They killed the minions, the demilich (which was then partially resurrected by the lair), then the lair's power source which was affecting the town. Unfortunately, the demilich was able to turn one of the party into a zombie and it snowballed from there. They died, but the town survived

@aardrian yeah, zombies are a special threat, especially when the radiant damage dealer happens to go down first. The last party member tried to escape but failed the last save before they would have got away. But the game was good. It was a oneshot for four players who have been playing baldur's gate 3 together for a year, and only 2 of them had played actual dnd. So it was simple (as in less paper management), but still deadly (because they had general dnd combat knowledge).

@stefan@front-end.social Definitely stealing that moving arrow from Josh Comeau's site. I should probably start making a list of micro-interactions. The last one I made was an animation curve that goes past its end-point. This one was for a kiosk machine running a children's education app: https://codepen.io/spartanatreyu/pen/YzoexGg?editors=1100
