@erkhyan@yiff.life from my own experience i gotta say absolutely not that. there's alot i dont miss about the internet in the 2000s but lack of global access was absolutely not a plus. what was an enormous plus, however, was that corporate conglomeration wasnt nearly as far along, and there was vastly less complex data harvesting and no cryptocurrency or AI. these are the reasons that alot of people i know miss the old internet for to be clear smartphones also play an enormous role in what the internet negatively became, they've especially been a catalyst for tracking and "personalized advertising" (actually just data harvesting) because having devices with always-on GPS and always-on microphones, even tracking when the phone is completely off, is a godsend for the nastiest possible actors

#artfight meant to try and match my 30 attacks last year but only completed a little more than half of that, 16 total. had full-time work this time around, volunteering work and have been really busy in general >: i made a few i really like though x3

@th@social.v.st @NanoRaptor@bitbang.social im upset how good that logo was

@mhoye@mastodon.social phone cameras are exactly what they're cracking down on and attempting to label people as "domestic terrorists" for though

@seshpenguin@social.sineware.ca @espidev@fosstodon.org Poop hello

@ipg this is still a reality in much of the world outside of the west

@southpaw1312@yiff.life it doesn't make sense to bring everything you can, especially if you're doing it on a non-electric bike. it becomes a modularity thing where you have specific bags packed for specific tasks and take only what you need depending on your needs for each trip away from home. this is just not a thing i've really had to worry about while driving, even if im getting a hotel somewhere because i wind up driving to a nearby store to get anything i missed as it's a non-effort. but taking transit and cycling forces you to be far more ready and aware of your needs. to take it many steps further, you can get into trail camping and keep a whole sleeping / washing arrangement with you on a bike or in a hiking bag. if nothing else, this knowledge means the world if your housing is unstable and you have to live on the street for a while or stay abroad for an extended period of time

@southpaw1312@yiff.life oh, big tip on lugging tech around. update shit before you head out, it's so fucking annoying when half a dozen programs want hundreds of megabytes of updates over data because you haven't turned the laptop or tablet on in a while

@quarc oh our 2014 chevy volt does this too

@mhoye@mastodon.social if this were a year ago id agree, but at this point in the US hidden cameras may become the only way to film police and ICE activities without consequences as the administration is trying it's best to make filming illegal
