Born in #Trieste 🇮🇹, I now live in #Helsinki 🇫🇮.
I’m an IT guy and a musician trying to make sense of the life I’m living. 😝
When I travel, I try to capture some of those feelings through photography. I also care about Music (punk, reggae, ska, electronica, metal...) and obviously about IT!
In the "social world" since #bbs and #fidonet 🐕! Quite a while! 🤣

I own a PHEV and I surely get your point: when I’m doing a long trip I don’t even plan to plug it along the way both for the reason you pointed out (it takes about 3 hours to charge it to get some modest 70km of electric route) but I wouldn’t also because the price of electricity in fast charger is so much higher than regular ones.
On the other hands, when I’m moving in the city I may go entire months without ever turning on the petrol engine simply because I can charge the car at my office place.
So, I get your point, but frankly don’t agree too much on the conclusion that phevs are not green. I may do 5/6 maybe 10 long trips per year while I use my car daily for every other need in the city.

Hello Daniel!
out of curiosity, since the "original" message is already coming from the server, what is the point of having the translation happening on the device? Couldn't it happen in the server directly then?

Not to mentions two insurances to pay, and the fact that a petrol car suffer when you don’t drive it for a while.

My opinion is that there is one huge gap at the moment, that is a cross instance search capability da could allow you to search an hashtag across the fediverse even if the content was not on your node. That forces ever instance owner to join relay and have a local copy of huge amount of data nobody will ever see just because someone someday might search for it.
That is the part that doesn’t scale well.
On the contrary if one could cross search, he would find an interesting account to follow even if it was in remote side of the world and could start to follow it.
So the question is not “does the distributed model scale well”, the question is “do the relay that keep everything aligned scale well?”
I have already seen big instances with a lot of active users dropping relays simply because the ratio between useful storage/users works best for them without actual federation duplicating post in a different language or on totally different topics than their focus.

I don't know where you live, but in Italy, where I was living previously, electricity price at a Tesla Supercharger is ~7 times the price of electricity at home.

In a standard home you have 3kW of power. If you want to charge an electric care you have to install a dedicated wall box with a different connection to the electrical grid from the one your home has.
