Roos Groothuizen

A few of us in Rotterdam have been working hard on https://www.prikbord.page : a web calendar specifically for creative spaces and underground venues in Rotterdam. It is online now and we are officially launching it on May 29 in Roodkapje West.

It all started with a sunny afternoon in 2025: 15 small and niche venues met up in Rotterdam to find the answer to a burning question: How do we collectively get ourselves off Instagram?

If you’re a Rotterdam organizer and want to connect to prikbord, come to the launch! We can help you get on board. The website is online already and we’re currently collecting feedback, so feel free to email if you see something strange or have a suggestion <3

Join us for a very special edition of Neocities Coding Night on Tuesday April 21!
We are teaming up with @sickhouse@mastodon.social in Enschede to turn our web coding night into a hybrid event: Join us live at .zip or via video portal at Sickhouse! ✨

Next to that, special guest @kajou@mastodon.design will talk about her ongoing research and the connection between magical thinking, web craft and rabbit holing — and how they can counter online fascism and homogenisation.

Neocities Coding Night is a monthly event where we get together and work on our personal websites. To hell with doom scrolling and brainrot, let's make the web fun again by crafting with HTML and CSS!

Newbies and pros welcome, bring your own laptop and food.
Free entrance.

Programme:
18:00: Introduction to Neocities and the Indie Web by Roos
18:30: The web as craft & magical thinking by Kiara
19:00: Let’s work on our websites! Introduction to documentation and sketching tips.
19:15 – 22:00: Work on your website

Yeah!!! Super proud of team prikbord.page. Out of 60 applications, prikbord is one of the 8 honored projects in Stimuleringsfonds's Grounding the Cloud: https://www.stimuleringsfonds.nl/nieuws/open-oproep-grounding-the-cloud-8-projecten-geselecteerd

prikbord.page is an experimental cultural event calendar for indie venues in Rotterdam. The idea started this summer when we (@zipspace@mastodon.social) and 14 other cultural initiatives got together with one question: How can we collectively deplatform?

Prikbord wants to serve as a parallel example to cultural content on Instagram's wasteland. It will be designed with, by and for underground communities and will focus on accessibility, small efforts and, most of all, ADVENTUROUS FUN! 🤸‍♀️

I will be joining the core team as front-end designer. Shout out to @unrepaircafe@post.lurk.org , @loucomputer@mastodon.social , @decentral1se@gts.varia.zone , @kajou@mastodon.design , @aliciabretonferrer@mastodon.social , and Nik 🌈 And the 20 initiatives joining the calendar. And shout out to @ivykim@post.lurk.org who initiated the entire idea and the first meet-up.

The calendar aims to go online in 2026 Q2. Are you an indie venue in 010 and want to be part of the calendar? DM me :) Are you in a different city? Sit tight! We're working on clear and open documentation.

@cyannevdh and I made a fun little curiosa display for Come Together, a performance & art gathering at Frascati in Amsterdam. We used the invite to experiment with CMYK lithophane 3D printing.

We were also deeply inspired by @jwn@tldr.nettime.org 's talk at 39C3 on dirty data and how words, species and topics disappear from AI through heuristic dataset cleaning methods.

Through this filtration, jiawen mentioned even animals and plants with naughty names fall victim. So... can we call this a linguistic extinction event? Here's to the Cabbage Bastard, Dik Dik and Cockchafer 🥂

Conceptually we saw a link with mineral extraction methods such as lithium mining, where unimaginable amounts of water are needed to slowly filter out lithium. Visually it's inspired by salty and oxidizing landscapes, neatly arranged in offset rectangles.
