(un)repair cafe

Hello internet pt. 2!
#introduction
We're from the (un)repair cafe, a weekly hangout in the south of Rotterdam. We glitch, mod, break, repair, make, dismantle, mix, complain, hot-glue trash and/or treasure.

Today we've installed toot (https://github.com/ihabunek/toot) on the server, which is located in the (un)repair cafe. Now any visitor will be able to post on this account to share their repairs, or update the #changelog of the server!

Thanks to multiple generous donations of toys<3: November will be "circuit novembing": 4 weeks of circuit bending madness! More info will follow soon.

an update on the electrical toothbrush: after *fixing* the unresponsive button, the device has unlocked some new, nifty features.

Not only does the LED ring change colors now, but the brush turns on randomly throughout the night. Bug or a feature? TBC.

Some highlights from the (un)repair cafe in january:

- Impromptu oscilloscope workshop!
- Yes, turns out you can actually compare soldering a wire with spreading butter on a sandwich
- More great donations. Come by if you're interested in power supplies with all kinds of outputs, synthesizer parts, arduino's, and many (many!) unidentified electronics
- there was an attempt on building a game PC with some donor desktops, but turns out RAM shortage has also hit the klankschool...

The calendar has been updated - see you thursday?

Can Y0u ræd tħiß?

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that

Is your handwriting still detectable by robots?
Collectively develop a hand style that can be read by humans but not by image recognition engines (AI / OCR)

This month at the (un)repair cafe, we are:

> video is repairing & videobending a family studio sony xv t33f
> recent server changes have caused some issues with our calendar (hence the aggressively red banners when you click too much :( )
> 2x Playstation 3 are getting their hard disk replaced
> vitrinekast & maybetree are building a trash synthesizer out of discarded eurorack modules & found devices. A few modules have now been tested and can use some love!
> we have a lot of speakers but almost none work. Some need cleaning & glueing, others require more investigation

See any of interest? Or have a project on your own? Join on a thursday!

And what will be worked on the coming few weeks:

- vitrinekast & maybetree are building a trash synthesizer out of discarded eurorack modules & found devices.
- video is repairing & videobending a family studio sony xv t33f
- vitrinekast's electrical toothbrush broke. Urgent repair needed before the smell becomes worse!
- Speaker repair - we have a lot of speakers but almost none work. Some need cleaning & glue-ing, others require more investigation

That concludes our final circuit bending evening of 2025!

See you next week for the grande finale, the symphony dé cacophony: noise with toys!
Bring your own audio source, and come play

19:00 till late at catu

We received a big donation of crispy electronics. We're working on an online library system to track all of the equipment we have, and their state of brokenness and repairs. Any recommendations?

Also - if someone in the neighborhood has any leftover shelves, we'd love to take them!

Had a great time tinkering around with printplates & LEDs at (un)repair cafe! Unfortunate when you can't find schematics. -Kia

Messing around with tv screens, a bigger callenge than we thought.. Connecting two wires turned into a month-ling commitment, but we are dedicated to do it! At least we know now where AC/DC got their name from. Let's call that a win.

First unrepair night of 2026 was a cold and quiet one. S. came by to replace their cracked phone screen. They find the repair so far relaxing, and pretty doable, but cold.
We're working on improving our tea-setup, so hopefully next week you'll at least be able to get something warm!

See you next week,18:30 ish at catullusweg 11

Happy New Donation Day!

Just received a box filled with arduino goodies! Buttons, sliders, displays, arduino's, wires, batteries, resistors, capacitors, breadboards, knobs, and soooo many sensors.

New years resolution to learn about arduino's? (un)repair cafe is opening again this thursday.

*Yes.... lurk novice here... The link to the video became a link, instead of a video...

We're taking a little break in December, so November 27th will be the last cafe of 2025: Toys with noise!

Thanks for the great evening of circuit bending!
Next week we'll continue down the road, picking up some of the discarded devices, merging them into a big messy orchestra(?)

The last thursday of november will be "Noise with Toys"! Jam session/performances with the instruments, hooking up to echo boxes and other goodies... See you there?

Upcoming thursday at the (un)repair cafe:
bring your playstation3 to jailbreak, let’s plug and play!

(un)repair cafe resident Video takes their glitch-skills from the analog world over to the digital world!
Bring your own playstation and join them in this open-ended workshop*, where we'll attempt to jailbreak the sony-systems together.
got some tips and tricks? Happy to get input from the lurk/internet realm!

We start around 18:30, but you're welcome to join throughout the night!

The (un)repair cafe workshop is still open for your soldering needs
