“Let the masses understand that these robbers hold this property (which is so much unpaid labor) under the plea of the laws which they themselves [the robbers] have made, and by the sanction of the very men they have locked out to starve.”

"“An entity called Timeless Sounds IR uploaded AI-generated versions of my songs to all major platforms,” Campbell explained in a video update to her followers. “And to do that, they fed YouTube videos of me to an AI engine that then mimicked my voice in playing.”
Because YouTube’s copyright claim system operates without individual human review of each dispute, Campbell’s channel was effectively handed over to Vydia’s financial control."

https://nein.ftrv.se/@sigrid/statuses/01KR796BPJTXKXW8MNBWCXHAGN I had this same sinking feeling upon skimming some #IWP9 talks.. its really discouraging to see so much LLM-hastily-cobbled-together stuff in a space like this, where I expect it to be one of the few remaining places to keep that at bay.
I've been using Plan 9 to dig deeper into historical systems and UNIX in general. I will just keep buying old textbooks before I even think of something that could include massive errors/oversights.
Here they go again: "For Gmail users, there is an automatic opt-in that may allow Google access to your emailed data (think: your personal and work messages, your attachments) “to train AI models,” cybersecurity experts allege. If you don’t want this information shared, you need to adjust your settings." https://www.huffpost.com/entry/gmail-ai-features-goog_l_69fe2d85e4b0cb033e51d6ec
Alright, so I'm thinking of doing https://www.fourjobfiesta.com/ in June and I have the luxury of making an important decision: do I use the GBA Rom with RetroAchievements or do I go... more classic style?:
"Many have claimed that wayland 'sucks', the goal of this site is to not only promote and make alternative wayland software which fits the label of 'minimalist', but also to disprove many of the claims people make against wayland." https://wayland.fyi/

"Here is a list of some other protocols and file formats. It is like the "SMALL INTERNET PROTOCOL ROUNDUP" document posted to the mailing list for Gemini previously, but with many differences."

Its this mode within the companies, and then developing changes for their products to get end users to erroneously use "AI" to artificially boost metrics.
"If I seem crankier than usual, it's because I've crossed the threshold and am now 1000000 years old (in binary, of course). And I'm sick and tired of seeing an intellectual discipline that I've devoted my life to reduced to a trade and commodity controlled by moronic wastes of oxygen that inhabit governments, c-suites, and standards committees" https://inbox.vuxu.org/9fans/afDdtyBg1o3qSezr@nomad3/ 🐇![]()

TIL exists today via the 9fans mailing list:
"Principia Softwarica is a series of books explaining how things work in a computer by describing with full details all the source code of all the essential programs used by a programmer. All the programs come from Plan 9 from Bell Labs, an operating system designed as the successor to Unix whose code is remarkably elegant and small." https://principia-softwarica.org/
Looking forward to digging into this.. when I can find more time.
