I hadn’t realised that Firefox now generates tagged PDFs when printing, that’s super nice functionality: https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/accessible/TaggedPdfOutput.html (thanks @jcsteh@aus.social!)

@Edent@mastodon.social Luxembourg has the best system that I’ve heard of, though I personally haven’t tried it. All public transport is free with no tickets. The only exception is if you want 1st class. https://luxembourg.public.lu/en/living/mobility/public-transport.html

Public transport is a fast, clean and free way of getting about in Luxembourg. With a network that constantly adapts to the needs of travellers, this mode of transport is increasingly popular with residents.

Writing some Tailwind for once, and it really feels like one of those mass industry illusions we’ll wake up from soon and wonder why on earth we thought that was a good idea.

Quite pleased with my latest #standardEbooks cover, managed to find a werewolf-esque wolf (that has more than a passing resemblence to my scottie) in the background of a much larger 17th century Dutch painting: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/collection/object/Satire-on-the-Trial-of-Johan-van-Oldenbarnevelt--268c4128e80a5ed0e5234c7fb496a12e

Nice to see electric ferries becoming a thing. My local ferry service to Denmark has two of their three boats electric. And I’ve just booked a ferry to Fanø where one of the two is.

Today’s front-end learning: a valid ID that’s not a valid selector (e.g. one with a `\,` in it) can be made selectable with querySelector by first passing it through CSS.escape. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/CSS/escape_static

Putting an old Apple Time Capsule up for sale so reset it to factory settings, but out of caution double-checked and found that the reset just reset the settings, not the drive contents, so they’re now being wiped.

Then I remembered that I’d bought the same box second-hand on eBay and when it turned up I found the drive full of recordings of US military planning sessions for Afghanistan operations. Those got deleted sharpish.

The Aeron of Theseus continues, with new old stock fabric arm pads. Apparently Enron (where this chair came from originally) special-ordered fabric ones for unknown reasons.

In the last 30 years it’s had two new gas struts, a new base mesh, support foam, and now arm pads. I reckon it’s easily got the same life left in it.

I’ve only read the idea prompts in @rottytooth@mastodon.social’s Forty-Four Esolangs so far but they’re genuinely beautiful, and, in an age of LLMs eating the normal, they seem almost transgressively human.

@sil I’ve run a bunch of internal presentations where I point out that light mode often gives less eye strain for specific groups, typically people with astigmatism. Every time there’s at least a couple of people who message me after to say exactly the same as you, and that they feel fooled by the pervasive “dark mode is better for everyone” messaging.

Putting together a compilation of short stories by Catherine Louisa Pirkis (of Loveday Brooke, Lady Detective fame) and I really love this archaeology part.

I’ve already transcribed 2–3 shorts from 1870s magazine scans that aren’t on her Wikipedia page. But there’s a novella called “Trooping with Crows” with no public scans available. Luckily you can pay British Library to digitise books from their collection, so #standardEbooks will have the first publication since 1880 (for free of course).

@zersiax@cupoftea.social they’re not always sunglasses, they can be normal prescription lenses. I’m definitely not taking my glasses off unless I’m showering or sleeping; taking them off in the bathroom would be a recipe for disaster.

@joshtumath@mastodon.social I’m sure I’m just missing something really obvious, but I’m having difficulty testing this. I’m on Chrome Canary 146 with experimental web platform features turned on, and I’ve added to my test page that has no font sizes applied to html (just ems, starting from body). I should just expect Mac’s General settings / Accessibility / Display / Text size slider to adjust the font size in the browser, right?
