"On Monday, local law enforcement officials announced that they were weighing whether federal agents should face criminal charges, including kidnapping, burglary and false imprisonment, over the detention of Mr. Thao on Jan. 18."

This absolutely should go forward as a case. And we need to prosecute Jonathan Ross.

I also think it makes sense. If your sense of self worth suddenly and dramatically improves, I’m quite sure it drives many changes in your life.

We live in weird times.

"Accordingly, President Trump's conclusory allegation that Defendants had contradictory evidence and failed to investigate is rebutted by the Article and is insufficient to establish actual malice."

Friendly reminder: Trump wrote a special note to Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday book.

And Melania does not get a pass.

@jon @Vivaldi It is my sincere hope that Apple will be forced to allow other browsers on iOS. My dream is to have a full Vivaldi on my iPad. The one thing I would say that iOS has going for it is remote desktop, which I use on my iPad to run Windows. (Don't judge, I need a Windows app.) But you know what else the iPad has...desktop mode. And it works GREAT. Just sayin.

I love Dave Chappelle and I am a supporter of NPR (specifically Minnesota Public Radio). This interview is well worth your time. And it's great that Dave Chappelle is an NPR supporter.

That said, the virtue signaling of some of the hosts drives me batty.

On the campaign trail, Trump vowed that a manufacturing revival would "happen fast and beautifully," and when he imposed sweeping tariffs on U.S. trading partners last April he predicted they would make factories "come roaring back."
But a tariff on Chinese-made brass instruments -- currently at 20.4% -- has not deterred Conn Selmer, which is following rivals that shifted production to China years ago to cut labor costs.

"[24] states give citizens the constitutional right to sponsor initiatives. Last year, legislatures in those states passed 51 bills restricting citizen ballot measures, according to the Fairness Project, which supports progressive initiatives. Between 2018 and 2023 they had passed, on average, 34 restrictive bills a year."

100% of the legislatures that passed bills restricting ballot measures were controlled by Republicans. Think about it.

@AmandaMarcotte I’ll put this article in the “wishful thinking” category. I just sent my son to Tokyo from the Minneapolis airport Monday morning. We saw few ICE agents. The lines were actually the same as always: very reasonable. The airports with the longest lines - and there aren’t as many as the press makes it out to be - already had issues (Newark) or are in deep red country (Houston). Also worth noting - a huge MAJORITY of people don’t step foot in an airport during any given year.

"U.S. President Donald Trump touted the operation as an urgent crime-fighting effort, targeting violent illegal immigrants. But the upheaval disrupted the regular work of the federal authorities charged with protecting public safety, according to the records and interviews with 10 current and former officials from state and federal law enforcement agencies."

The damage to my city from the Trumpites will last a long time.

I would argue that Clarence Thomas - long term - has done more to help liberals than any other justice in American history.

From overturning Roe - which essentially guaranteed abortion access to much of the population by enshrining rights in state constitutions to revisiting precedents which then hands the left opportunities to revisit "settled law" (such as Citizens United).

Is he a good and smart person? Mmmm. I don't know.

@darwinwoodka @AmandaMarcotte The message that is printed in magazines and reaching the population is, "The ICE deployment to airports has backfired and is annoying the average voter." Whatever Warnock is saying - even when I 100% agree - isn't in that article. Again - you are just highlighting the problem I am sharing here: lazy analysis by a Salon writer that has an incorrect conclusion and zero percent real messaging by Democrats.

@darwinwoodka @AmandaMarcotte THIS is the story. And the Democrats - for all of Warnock's flowery prose - are going to take at least some of the blame where those long lines exist. No amount of hopeful "stories" (because Salon's puff piece does not qualify as journalism) is going to help. https://www.axios.com/2026/03/25/tsa-airport-security-quit-shutdown

@darwinwoodka @AmandaMarcotte OK. That even proves my point further. A very small part of the population is affected. I'm just tired of certain media taking victory laps when they aren't warranted. This is not the thing we are looking for. The Salon article is lazy. It's a puff opinion piece. The thing that Democrats need at this point is a message. We can't cross our fingers and hope that ICE pisses off the marginal voter at 1 of 12 airports.

I’m glad someone else recognized what I have been saying for 2 years: Democrats have not learned their lesson after losing all the chambers and being against Trump is not a long-term strategy.

@jon @Vivaldi While I think Android Desktop is very interesting, is this what people are asking for? The reviews for desktop mode are not great - although a demo I had from my nephew was quite impressive. I have been trying tab groups on my iPad and the results are...not great. Would it be possible to bring vertical tabs to the iPad? I suspect more users would like this than Android Desktop.

The Democrats *STILL* have not learned their lessons in the last 10 years. As a result, it is growing more and more unlikely they will take the house or the Senate this year.

These incompetent and feckless bafoons have had 2 years to create a message. And all they came up with "We are anti-Trump".

It is dispiriting.

Here's the advice:

Democrats need to win elections. They need to appeal to Americans. It's just not happening right now.

@jmcunx @GossiTheDog I tried a de-Googled Android by buying a Nextbit Robin and installing LineageOS (about 10 years ago). The OS installation wasn’t that bad, Lineage was great, but the open source software (I’m looking at you F-Droid) at the time was absolute trash. Beyond trash - it was ugly and unusable. The best path forward if you want privacy is to get an iPhone and then turn off all the AI on the phone. I’m sure the situation is better now, but not for mainstream people.
