@nixCraft@mastodon.social And not only Microsoft. Over the last 6 months: Oracle -50%, Nvidia, -10%, Palantir -22%, Meta -27%, IBM -15%, snowflake -31% ... and the list goes on
@thomasfuchs The best alternative is to buy a real book, it is almost the same price than a kindle book, does not require technical support or any DRM restricted implementation software. Just a simple book
@Gargron@mastodon.social The beauty of a candid, slightly blurry image is that it captures the raw authenticity of a moment. This isn't some staged, pristine portrait of an English admiral - it's a real snapshot of you, the creator of Mastodon, in the midst of your community at FOSDEM 2023.
Think of it this way: The imperfections in the photo actually add to its charm and mystique.
@Mastodon@mastodon.social Thank you for your answer. I've never felt annoyed in Mastodon though my presence here. Mastodon is really a peaceful place to exchange, it's a gift to have this kind of instance. Thank you for your hard work!
@wonka@chaos.social@syllopsium@peoplemaking.games And you're right, there's nothing better than being free to do what we want :) Let's be clear, I don’t see any objection to DRM when DRM-free formats such as DRM-free ePUBs already exist. If there’s to be a debate, it should also be about the free use of e-books. And when I say ‘book’, or 'ebook' I mean complete freedom – just as I might leave a book in a bar for anyone to pick up and read, without any DRM.
@syllopsium@peoplemaking.games I see far more drawbacks than benefits in e-readers, apart from the fact that they need to be recharged, otherwise they make reading impossible. Amazon’s specific DRM prevents anyone who inherits our library upon our death from accessing these e-books. Stuffing 1,000 books into an e-reader is also pointless; we might as well carry one or two books in our bag – they don’t take up that much space. As for the waterproofing of e-readers, I don’t see the point of reading in the rain.
@nixCraft@mastodon.social well, as a religion I would follow slackware, void or arch but as a daily user I'm locked to debian because of stability, scale deployment and great integration in every aspect, tho it's not my favourite one, but the default one, and i like it 'cause I faced no issue during the last 15 years of use now.
