@jblue@mastodon.world @cassolotl@toot.wales it's wildly expensive and extremely inefficient compared to standard systems, the largest they made so far is 14"x20" and require special wired frames, so they don't really replace big glass panels (at least as they currently have them), they did a few test installations which work but are kinda underwhelming, 2% efficiency that really only produces in full early morning and late afternoon isn't much, they were able to light a single room's LED lighting using this array

@ApostateEnglishman @inthehands people from the UK and Europe can definitely directly help more than you might think!. If you still have them cancel your US based streaming services, close amazon accounts, apple accounts, etc, get your friends and family off twitter/facebook. These billionaire owned services are all directly funding tump and this chaos for personal profit. Europe could make a HUGE impact by canceling accounts on Friday en-masse.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social It's crazy how many terrible laws managed to quickly sneak through the system while everyone was getting shot at and protesting. Here in MN they also snuck in opening up mining in state parks and BWCA while half our population was literally choking on tear gas and out on the streets.

@glassbottommeg probably spring after the young spiders have at least hardenedr. (I guess also in winter if you're careful to not harm any egg sacs, or just move them to a safer place) orb weavers will also rebuild their webs daily so it does vary by spider. I'm pretty sure i've domesticated my house spiders at this point, I can pinch off the web they're hanging on and carry them, stick it to a wall and they instantly start rebuilding, they're massively chill with me moving them around.

@gsuberland@chaos.social @friedrich@vis.social @halcy@icosahedron.website for <$50 per drive and at worst a lifespan of a decade even under moderate loads it barely matters, especially for something like this that's going to be mostly write-once then read only at a moderate rate for 1-2 users you'll get WAY more bang for your buck just going as cheap as possible. Don't forget the second version of the RAID acronym...redundant array of INEXPENSIVE disks

@susankayequinn "solar power threatening to overwhelm electricity grid" is such bunk too, solar power plants and even rooftop solar have the exact same control capability of any other power plant, better actually than many others which is why they get curtailed before other plant types. The inverters only produce what they're commanded to produce up to the limit of what the panel input currently allows, and it's precisely controlled to manage frequency and voltage on the local grid.

@glassbottommeg@mastodon.gamedev.place No real trick, normal weapons hurt it, but it's massively strong and really hard to hit, you're intended to avoid it and level for a while before coming back. It's also in somewhat of an annoying area where most sword attacks will hit the wall and damage your sword instead. (the gazer itself also damages your sword no matter what, so lower stats = more hits = more damage to your gear)

If anyone needs whistles or other safety gear in the St. Cloud area (or nearby) of #Minnesota let me know, I have a fast accurate printer and loads of sealed PETG, among other stuff. I also have plenty of server space and bandwidth if anyone wants to set up web pages for organizing, posting meeting schedules, etc (to get all that stuff off facebook!), I don't mind setting up more complicated tools/servers either. While you can still do what I did (disable all online features on the printer and never let it register online) there's no guarantee that will be easy on future firmwares and the software is a ticking timebomb that will stop functioning at some point in the future, it may be years, but at some point it'll be so out of date it would need to be run in a VM. I do wish other printer software had better editing though....

(everything else is pushing towards doing the editing in blender which is overwhelmingly more complicated and way more than I'd ever want to deal with). They were legitimately great for a LONG time and the printers are some of the most affordable for their quality, it just sucks they're pushing for online only/drm stuff now

@ignaloidas@not.acu.lt @halcy@icosahedron.website @gsuberland@chaos.social @friedrich@vis.social a linear volume w/ ext4 cleans up pretty painlessly if a drive in the array fails, the nice part about that setup is you can just dump the torrent to it and not care, and since you can keep the entire torrent structure intact if files go missing or get corrupted you can just resume download on that torrent again. Is it the cleanest, safest way to do things? No, but it's cheap AF and easy, and failures should be rare since you shouldn't really be writing

I also have some pretty large clusters of SMR disks that have been running for ages, unless you're doing some intensive tasks like using it to record 4k video streams from a security system you really barely see any reliability differences. I use enterprise disks when building large clusters for clients but tbh most of the difference you get in those for the price is the warranty, plus who am i to judge if they want to pay me more.

@jens@social.finkhaeuser.de @glassbottommeg@mastodon.gamedev.place yeah, it's weird but STR doesn't just do raw damage in UUW, if it's too low compared to an enemy it affects your attack/sword/etc skill and your hits get effectively "blocked", so you need both a higher str and a higher skill for that weapon or even hits that "hit" may do nothing but damage your equipment. Gazers may look squishy but you're basically slamming your sword into a powerful creature with rock hard skin so your stats have to be high enough to pierce it's armor.

@glassbottommeg@mastodon.gamedev.place not exactly, if you're getting the message when hitting the gazer that your sword is getting damaged you're landing hits, but if you're too low level your damage is negligible and you're mostly just thrashing your sword. It doesn't really get the big blood streaks like some other enemies, you'll mostly see just a quick blip near the top sometimes (it doesn't always happen when you hit it). It's a long fight so you'll chew through equip if you're not hitting heard enough per hit

@EndicottAuthor@mastodon.social @greenpeace@mastodon.social which isn't even true, wind and solar are both extremely profitable and have the shortest turn around from investment to profit in the industry. It's why banks back loads of wind and solar all over the world. What they aren't is profitable specifically for the oil companies, and unlike oil it's harder to manipulate and mandate a global price per barrel to make a secondary killing off "investment"

Imagine what a REAL general strike would do. There's nothing they fear more than the loss of money.

(not to mention that that's also comparing games made by two of the biggest AAA devs of the time to a one man indie release). Again the main difference is mostly just time, for it's time most of the touhou games stood out for their stunning graphics and music, the fan games are almost 20 years newer.

The interface in Gimp 3.0 is just awful out of the box, between the new icons for tools and tool groups it's incredibly hard to tell one from another and which ones you need to select to pick other tools, thankfully they went back and let us toggle them back to the old style, well mostly. Just such a huge interface downgrade from 1.0...
