@fastfinge@fed.interfree.ca @Tamasg@mindly.social Yup, it's basically OLC on steroids if you've ever used that back in the old days. I was kinda hoping I'd be the first person to come at Evennia with an AI coding assistant. LOL

@collette@mastodon.social @dgar@aus.social Honestly I have no idea. I've heard everything from "if you expect good service, we expect a tip" to "the server is still earning that money" and honestly none of the reasons actually make sense. Best I can figure is they like not needing to claim the tips on their taxes. Either way, tipping culture needs to die quickly.
Replying to
@dgar@aus.social Well, in Canada, the barista now makes a living wage and folks have stopped tipping, so now we're being told the non-tippers are crippling the country. So I mean...

@mikedoise Nope. I have enough trouble keeping family on task. Keeping GPT on task is its own job. I sometimes use it to troubleshoot an issue with the Mastodon instance and even then I need to remind it that we tried that step 5 minutes ago and it failed.

@mikedoise Unless the AI has some serious guardrails against both misinformation and outright fiction, you as an app developer are not going to be able to put a positive spin on that. And I say that as someone who uses AI.

@astrovore If you find one of those who needs a tech support geek, fire that link my direction if you please?

@RareBird15@allovertheplace.ca Miniflux is a good option. I use the self-hosted version, but they have a managed version if you prefer. You can categorize your feeds, or view each feed on its own, or view all your unread articles in one screen (this is what I do). Not an NVDA user, but it should be accessible with that screen reader. Are you on iOS? The Lire RSS client works with it flawlessly and is also what I use. There's an extension for Chrome that helps you to detect if there are any RSS feeds. This is the one I use. I don't know if it's available for Firefox or not. https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/get-rss-feed-url/kfghpdldaipanmkhfpdcjglncmilendn

@arfy @fastfinge @cachondo Welp, I'm one of these days going to sit down and see if I can't rewrite the version I have in Python and call it good. Accessible Output 2 should cover JAWS, NVDA and SAPI if needed.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo Might make that my first vibe coding project. I thought about dusting off an old MUD codebase but this'll do.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo Yeah, I could have swore it did, but I was apparently incorrect. Woops. I made the source available in case someone wants to hack at it.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo It doesn't, really, though. And Discord's trash on iOS for other reasons.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo I mean, probably technically so has the JFW API. It's been 20 years, after all. But the old functionality still exists, apparently, because I've been using it for 20 years. LOL
Replying to
@arfy @fastfinge Hey hi! I still use mIRC with the mIRCSpeech plugin. Sure, the plugin hasn't changed in like 20 years, but neither has the JFW or presumably NVDA API.

@BorrisInABox That is absolutely true. Still doesn't excite me about going through the logs, though. Sidekiq in particular is... well. I'd rather not.
Replying to
@BorrisInABox An excellent time for me to be pushing new code to the instance if I do say so myself. This can only break in a billion possible ways.
@Bruce@allovertheplace.ca @mcourcel@allovertheplace.ca The only thing I know your premier has explicitly not done is pissed off half your province.

@countrymetalhead@someplace.social @munchkinbear@mastodon.stickbear.me It's all that personal, quality time. LOL

@amy0223 I can't speak for you, but my parents taught me this shit. The blind school I went to for 4 years didn't care if I knew it or not. If this chick's daughter can't do that at her age, that's a parenting issue. Also, run. Run away. Run away quickly.
Replying to
@cubic @BorrisInABox Remember the part where I said don't do anything weird? That's what I was talking about. Don't do that. You learned.
Replying to
@munchkinbear @fastfinge @arfy @cachondo That was my plan. Probably using something like Cursor IDE.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo I don't even know how you'd make IRC accessible on iOS. Or even Android. On iOS in particular VO would be tripping over itself every time someone posted something new. You'd have a hell of a time doing anything.
Replying to
@mikedoise Are they fixing how Voice Over interacts with basically everything web related in the next two weeks? Because if not, no.
Replying to
@arfy @fastfinge @cachondo It should absolutely all work. It's a pretty basic program and I've tested it on JAWS versions as recent as 2025. No reason the NVDA API should behave any differently.
Replying to
@fastfinge@fed.interfree.ca @Tamasg@mindly.social As a concept, super neat. If I ever get around to creating my own MUD I also thought about using Openrouter, but not like you have. A world that writes itself, though? That's new.
Replying to
@munchkinbear @arfy @fastfinge @cachondo Okay, let me rephrase. Whatever the hell the current version of Accessible Output is, I plan to use. :P
Replying to
@KaitlynAmira @simon @Estrella You’re a good person, Kat. You deserve someone just as good. Don’t settle.
Replying to
@Tamasg@mindly.social Calling it vibe coding is like calling your use of spellcheck or autocorrect vibe editing. You do still need to know what you're doing with the tool, or yeah, what's gonna come out is slop. If you say "write me a program that does X", you will absolutely get a program that does X. But you will be leaving all of the decisionmaking re: what that program looks like up to the AI. Would you leave all the decisionmaking of what word to use up to autocorrect? Then don't do that with AI. Sadly, far too many people will let autocorrect make the final decision. And those are the people producing AI slop.
Replying to
@munchkinbear @BorrisInABox Honestly I'd rather migrate from MastoHost than some of the stuff I've seen. Well, I'd rather do neither, but if those were my only two options...
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo Well, then that can probably stay broken until one of us has a reason and a place to test. LOL
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo What message types are those? And I assume that would just be a matter of updating the scripts and repackaging it. I just haven't seen any to test.

@simon Oh for the love of vodka. I ditched them years ago because terrible service. Nice to know they've upgraded their app to match.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo I only have the installer for it and no readme, but it was version 1.80 last updated in 2010.
Replying to
@arfy @fastfinge @cachondo I haven't, but IRSSI was a Linux client, yes? I remember using something like it without any real issues back in the day.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo Well, once I throw it up on GH later if you want to update it, I mean it's partially your code. Just send me the new installer and I'll add it to the repo. Or give you access, whichever.
Woops. I added a bunch of Reddit RSS feeds to my Miniflux install and gave it the wrong password for those feeds. Yesterday. Now I can access absolutely none of Reddit on that server. Still. I mean, fortunately it's a temporary block but next time... validate passwords first, durpstick.
Replying to
@fastfinge@fed.interfree.ca @Tamasg@mindly.social I might. But I'm also seriously considering starting up my own. We will not compete, though. You're doing something quite unique.
Welp. Looks like my replacement dish washer's getting looked at next week. This is how we're doin' Friday, apparently.
It says something that the first thing I did upon setting up my laptop at the parents' place is connect it to Tailscale. What it says is a question for a me that is not running on 3 hours' sleep, however.
Replying to
@simon Right now I'm with Virgin Plus for both phone and internet, but if Fiber ever maes it to my address I'll probably switch internet back to TekSavvy. I spent more time arguing with Rogers about my bill than I spent using the service, so no.
Replying to
@BorrisInABox Eh. Once you have things working properly it's not as terrible as my griping makes it sound. Just pay attention to GitHub PR's, when they tell you they updated the Ruby dependency they fucking mean it, and otherwise don't do anything weird. The only actual problems I've seen are when people decided not to follow the instructions and things broke, usually months later.
So apparently Ottawa now has at least one Papa John's location that'll deliver to me. I've never had them before. Someone give me 3 reasons why I should and what I should try. I'm looking almost specifically at @Bruce@allovertheplace.ca.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo It installs into an existing mIRC version. I explicitly avoided the bundled version because I do remember if you ever updated mIRC for any reason that thing hit the floor.
Replying to
@fastfinge @arfy @cachondo Yeah, I'll give it a repo later today. I might see if the readme is somewhere on my machine and use that as the basis for the readme.md GitHub looks for.
