Sparkly tinkering with computers.
Developper for the Haiku operating system, designer of retro computing hardware, reverse engineering of VTech stuff, and many other cool things!
Seen this morning: a big "AI on board" ad on, of all things, a garbage truck. Can't decide if it's genius trolling or not thinking about the implications.
Random Haiku development action shots: currently we're updating libxml2 at haikuports and rebuilding all things that depend on it (due to lack of symbol versioning and namespacing, a process can't have multiple versions of libxml2 running at the same time).
So, Blender is still running fine! (somewhat old version, but all I cared about is getting it building again)
Next is trying to rebuild 0.A.D. which promises to be a challenge.
#3615MaVie: J'ai installé des ventilateurs de plafond
Made some progress today on eMMC storage support in Haiku. But no success yet, the commands to read data from the storage gets me a device timeout. I have several things to cleanup and improve, we'll see if that helps. And I hope I don't get any regressions on SD and SDHC cards.
Just found out that there is now a vector/scalable version of the proggy fonts. It's great if you want tiny text that remains readable, and it has better unicode coverage than the old bitmap one. I'm happy to fit so much text on my screen again, but keep the ability to zoom in if needed!
My server ran out of memory because the web statistics script cannot keep up with parsing the logs with so many scrapper bots visiting me. At this point, 65% of the requests are being rejected and the IP blocked (which means I still reach 65% with requests comming from different IP addresses). And I'm likely very far from detecting and rejecting all the bots.
This was also my first time ordering PCBs from @aislerhq@aisler.social so they are made in the EU. Some notes about that:
- you can upload your kicad files directly, no export to gerber needed, pretty convenient!
- untracked postage is cheap, but took 2 weeks (it's fine, I'm not in a hurry)
- order quantities are in multiples of 3 as they make 3 panels with several PCBs on them
- no batching: I ordered two different circuits and they were shipped separately. I guess it makes their logistics simpler
Today random electronics works: fixing a headlamp for my stepbrother and an old duplo train for my nephew. Both had leaked batteries causing some corrosion inside. For the toy train it was just the battery terminals, so a good cleanup and reapplying a little bit of solder was enough. But there was an extra challenge as my nephew played with it while it was open, so it came "pre desassembled".
REMOVE BATTERIES FROM YOUR DEVICES.
Mystery device found on the sidewalk today. There is a sticker with the brand "EO Guidage" which was a company making sound signalling system to guide blind people on crosswalks. Not sure why and how this was abandoned where I found it.
It has some Renesas microcontroller, bluetooth, usb, and a built-in 5V power supply. I'll put it on the pile of things that may become devboards.
