Turns out, Hanno Braun shut down Fornjot two months ago. One less FOSS b-rep CAD kernel out there.

Founder of Libre Arts (formerly Libre Graphics World), former contributor to GIMP and more libre projects than a sane person would admit
That awkward moment when a vibe-coded 2D/2.5D open-source CAD program built on top of a Rust DWG library nobody heard of before is the only fucking FOSS tool to open DWG files with Cyrillic letters correctly
Those page names though :)
Google announced GSoC2026 projects for all participating organizations. Here is what you can expect this year if you are interested in design, media production, and engineering and follow @GIMP@floss.social, @GraphiteEditor@mastodon.social, @kdenlive@floss.social, @freecad@social.freecad.org, @Blender@mastodon.social, and other projects
In a new instance of "the shit Linux users have to fix for themselves because vendors couldn't be bothered", Rolando Trevino now has initial support for Universal Audio's Apollo line of audio interfaces.
Been posting on Libre Arts, but not on Patreon. So here is a quick update on the state of affairs: why there are no more weeklies and what I've been doing (and will keep doing) instead.
The DFM analysis tool is shaping up nicely in @freecad@social.freecad.org. Screenshot from the developer, posted on Discord
So Jehan did a talk about GIMP as a community project yesterday at LGM, and I'm afraid I have more questions than answers. This is my rather salty piece about the takeaways.
Remember that time in 2018 when @GIMP@floss.social got a $100K donation from a Web3 startup through GNOME Foundation? I wonder how much of their Web3 tech got into GIMP, because of course that's how sponsorship works 😆
Anthropic is not a great company, some of their practices are outright vomit-inducing (remember the burning of books?). But there have been other corporate sponsors, and Blender hasn't succumbed to their will yet. I wonder why. Could there be *gasp* a policy against that?
Begone, you filthy fillet goblin!

Also, it's time to start giving out @freecad@social.freecad.org medals to some folks. Whenever this is merged and if it really works as advertised, Angelo would be my #1 pick :)
Is there a scientific study where researchers look into the intelligence level of people who enjoy creating and maintaining kill lists (pro-RMS, anti-RMS, slopware, etc.)? Asking for a friend.
New ALSA Scarlett GUI release from Geoffrey D. Bennett: DSP controls for Vocaster One/Two, configuration for setting up IO and custom port names, routing and mixer updates, and more
One other thing that is kinda disturbing to watch recently is the response to https://oss-ai-policies.netlify.app/ and FOSS projects being more concerned about AI code quality than about the ethical side.
Basically, "you are doing the right thing for your own reasons, and only my reasons are valid!". This divisive tribal shit will not end well.
Alexander Dorokhine has just ported the Deskew plugin to work with @GIMP@floss.social 3.0, so here is the first plugin release in… oh, 11+ years.

In other news, people keep talking shit in their native language thinking noone else understands it. Oh my sweet summer child.

Here is a really decent attempt to create a FOSS replacement for RME TotalMix FX
@pocketvj@fosstodon.org @rodlie@mastodon.social oh there's quite a few, but personally, i swear every time i use most of them 🤣
Hey @LMMS@fosstodon.org, your website returns 502 Bad Gateway
I guess this is grub-coding then 🤣

I thought I was going crazy. But no, turns out pull-down resistors just don't work on Pico 2.
