My birthday is next week, and @marz@caw.corbode.com wrapped some presents for me so I could enjoy looking at them in the meantime! I adore the origami flowers, and the shade of purple they used to write on the paper is so nice and spring-y. I'm so lucky~

I accidentally got Skywarn trained tonight. I accompanied @marz@caw.corbode.com to the local ham radio club meeting for the first time, and they just happened to be having an official Skywarn basic training, so now I'm a trained spotter!

Does anyone have any idea what kind of caterpillar this is? We've found a few around here in central Kentucky, but we're struggling to ID it.

Does anyone have advice for GMing a TTRPG while you have mental health issues? I've got bipolar, and it's pretty easy on the whole to prep & run a bunch of sessions while I'm manic (extra energy, hyperfocus, etc.), but it's hard to do stuff like that when the depression hits afterward.

@marz@caw.corbode.com @jhwgh1968@chaos.social @twistylittlepassages@weirder.earth Even the N3C (https://ncats.nih.gov/research/research-activities/n3c/overview) deals exclusively in de-identified data and has a method for tracking a given individual across multiple health systems without actually ingesting any PHI to tie them together. And any given entity is generally loathe to allow any PHI outside of their institution if they can help it, since they can suffer consequences (to their finances, reputation, etc.) if there's a breach.

As far as FDA and adverse event reporting, my understanding is that it's often done in aggregate and not with PHI, but I'm not usually on that side of the fence (I do more clinical/claims stuff).

Would anyone be able to give me a solid (human-done) translation of "stack your buffs" in Latin?

My qpp and I have been saying it for years, and we were recently joking that it's become our family motto, so we're entertaining the idea of getting it engraved on something lol

@martin@dice.camp Thank you so much for these ideas! I've played For the Queen before, and I've definitely heard of the others but never tried them out. Having an alternative is a great idea, and I can totally see myself being able to GM more easily with less pressure. I've never tried an OSR game before, but I'll take that into consideration for sure. I'm really partial to Fate, personally, and maybe that level of improv/quick thinking is part of what wears me out too. Something to think about.

@hyperreal@tilde.zone @k8rgrl@transfem.social I haven't used it personally, but a lot of libraries give out access to Mango Languages for free. You could check that out and see if it's for you. If you're interested in textbooks for German, I liked teaching from Netzwerk Neu (start with A1). They're immersion based, so all in German, but it shouldn't be too overwhelming.

@hyperreal@tilde.zone Tbh idk who would be invested enough to make fun of you about it. Personally, I'm just amazed at how easy you seem to find it to distro hop. I find it a little tedious to set everything up each time I (re)install an OS, like logging in to everything and getting my Plasma settings just so. Is there a good way to preserve that kind of stuff so it doesn't have to be done on a loop?

@hyperreal@tilde.zone What's the difference between Fedora and Ultramarine? I'm intrigued, but I don't feel like I get it. The migration script looks like it's adding some repos and... not really anything else, so I just figure I'm missing something.

@eladhen@dice.camp Makes sense; if prep is what's getting in the way, find a means of cutting it out! I recently started reading a book called "Never Unprepared: Game Master's Guide to Session Prep." No idea if it might be helpful for you (I also haven't finished it yet), but on the off chance it might, I thought I'd pass it along! I'm looking to run some stuff in Fate, which means improv is a real feature, but one is a West Marches style game, and that definitely requires some prep imo lol

I know they're worth it though because I used to have some in college, and they were good for me then. idk why I stopped wearing them. Maybe because they're expensive to replace when they wear out lol

Maybe they're not worth it. Not because of the "getting used to it" period, but because it's not actually helping with my problem :(

It's wild to me how Crocs are so much more helpful. I think part of it is the wider toe-box. No one seems to want to make shoes that don't crush people with big feet.

RE: @petrosophia@caw.corbode.com

I'd love to hear how others manage this. I got a few boosts before, but no responses. I'm open to hearing from anyone who has significant variability in energy for and/or interest in a given hobby at any time.
