Quote from the astronauts earlier today: "I have two Microsoft Outlooks, and neither one of those are working."

They really are up there representing us all *sniff, wipes tear from eye*

(Lovingly yoinked from @nikigrayson.com on BlueSky so y'all don't have to go there)

@atoponce I've no choice but to use Chrome for work on my self-supplied PC, but I'm currently trying:

  • Delete weights.bin
  • Create an empty file with the same name
  • Set its file attributes to read-only, and system to hopefully make it impossible for Google's weights file to replace it when Chrome tries to redownload it.

Fingers crossed. If that doesn't work, I'll see if the hidden attribute works any better than the system attribute.

@markmccaughrean I think the Ariane 64 Block 2 will have the payload to launch a reasonable two-person capsule on top of an ESM to the ISS? But I imagine they couldn't be kept in storage long enough to both develop the capsule and crew rate the rocket. So nothing short or medium term by that route, hm.

If you want really weird, King Camp Gillette (of razor blade fame) wrote an 1894 book called The Human Drift, which is a utopian vision of a megacity built around Niagara Falls.

It's got no narrative, but it's completely fictional in that none of its proposals happened -- it being megalomanical techo-utopianism which looks dystopian to the far future year of 2026.

@nyrath@spacey.space @GIFS_of_Puppets@ohai.social Henson was fond of this sketch and did it no less than four times. The 1967 Ed Sullivan version had a different monster (resembling the future Cookie Monster, but green). It also didn't explode after. Then he did a "green Cookie and the machine explodes" version for an IBM training film in 1968. This screenshot is one from the Muppet Show in 1977. The purple Muppet here was the major change. Finally, he reprised the 1977 version in 1987, for another training film.

@Bin @si_fuller Sorry, that came off more aggressive than I intended. What I mean is pressure suits that could have dual-purposed as spacesuits but were designed for stratospheric ballooning. (Coincidentally, I'm researching the pre-WWII stratospheric ballooning "race" between the US and USSR for a book I'm writing about the 1945-57 period of rocketry)
