i scheduled after work drinks with a couple of colleagues today and called the outlook invite 'inter-apéro-bility.' that's the best thing my brain did all week. ok, bye.

Part Senior Researcher at the Centre for Science & Technology Studies (CWTS). (Recovering) (auto)ethnographer of knowledge infrastructures. Lighthouse connoisseur. Avid tennis watcher. Accumulator of more LPs than I'll ever have the time to listen carefully to.
One of the coolest aspects of working in #researchdatamanagement in the Netherlands is being able to organize a workshop called 'What's behind the #datamanagementplan of the future?' and then filling the room with over 40 folks passionate about discussing possible answers to the question with their friends, colleagues, and strangers for a full hour. Shouts out to my #OSTrails co-coordinator @eileenrw@social.edu.nl and the enthusiastic crew who joined us at @SURF@social.edu.nl Research Day!
🚨 Are you interested in the intersections of multimodal/artistic research practices, FAIR infrastructure stuff, and open research information? Or do you want to find out what any of these these things even mean? Then join us next Wednesday 12 June from 15.00-15.30 as we present our pre-proposal for the current round of TDCC-SSH/NWO Challenge Project funding. Project description is in the image, and all other details incl. the call link are here: https://tdcc.nl/presenting-the-last-batch-of-project-idea-submissions-from-the-tdcc-ssh-challenge-call/ 🚨
i'm happy to announce that after 19 months of working close to lots of national policy and funding discussions here in the netherlands, i finally updated my outlook settings so that 'NWO' no longer autocorrects to 'NOW' every time i reference the dutch research council in an email ✨⚡️
Hey y'all -- @SURF@social.edu.nl Research Day is happening on 30 May, and @eileenrw@mastodon.nl and I will be leading a workshop (14.50-15.40) we're calling, 'What’s behind the Data Management Plan of the future?' We hope you'll join us!
You can find the official details here: https://pretalx.surf.nl/surf-research-day-2024/talk/DUQJMZ/
@timelfen@assemblag.es ahh, funny enough i participated in a 4-hour workshop about modular publishing and the @ResearchEquals@akademienl.social platform in leiden this afternoon. lots of food for thought about how to leverage this in the anthro/ethnography space, especially for NTROs/non-textual research data & materials, but also looking at how the design of such tools might also feel alienating to some of the audiences who stand to benefit most from them. ps i know i owe you an email 😘
@inquiline@assemblag.es i've been saying the same thing, but about the civil war. i guess your take accounts for the international component, mine for the domestic?
i met with an (anthropology) researcher today who's interested in combining GIS data with ethnographic data, e.g., overlaying maps with narrative accounts of the mapped spaces.
are any of y'all bridging across GIS & ethnography? any cool examples of digital tools/websites that have this type of functionality?
among the many guys i am not, a GIS guy is high on that list. any leads are appreciated!
@hedgielib@glammr.us Locked Drawer™️ is actually the name of the university's super safe, encrypted network storage system.
If you're in/around Leiden this Wednesday 9 October, please join us from 15.00-16.30 at the Faculty for Social & Behavioural Sciences (rm. 3A.21) for our next @d12n@fed.leiden.digital / @cwts@social.cwts.nl DataCultures seminar series with Daniela Agostinho (Aarhus U.), who will be talking to us about her new project, 'Reparative Encounters: Colonial Histories, Other-Archives, and Collaborative Artistic Research'.
do i have any friends on the east coast usa (especially nyc) who will be traveling to amsterdam for 4s/easst next month? if so, and if you're possibly willing to do me a very non-academic favor, please slide into my DMs. i promise this is not creepy at all.
@victorgijsbers@mastodon.gamedev.place not pragmatic enough to come from *that* dewey.
While on the themes of #4S2023 and #rewardandrecognition, colleagues at @cwts@social.cwts.nl also have an Open Panel exploring what the struggles and solutions around R&R look like in #STS, where they ask: 'What do we understand R&R to mean? What are we and are we not recognizing/rewarding? What methodologies/infrastructures are we building to make visible what has traditionally been invisible?' https://4sonline.org/news_manager.php?page=31518 cc/ @alexrushforth@social.cwts.nl @sarahderijcke@social.cwts.nl
My buddy @kathleengregory@mastodon.social and I have put together an Open Panel for #4S2023: 'Caring for, sharing, and reusing data as emic STS practices.' The panel welcomes submissions reflecting on data management, data sharing, data reuse, and data description *within* STS research, as well as real/imagined infrastructures supporting such practices.
