I think the reason the current “tinned fish” trend irks me is that it takes something really simple and often very affordable and makes it super pretentious. It is especially pretentious to hear Americans say “tinned fish” because we don’t say “tinned” anything here

A neat thing that I have gotten into: QMK firmware for keyboards and mice. Enormous potential to make things more comfortable/convenient. Good normie-friendly tools in Win/MacOS. But on Linux, the attitude is still "fuck you learn to code". Doesn't help that documentation is scattered, hard to come by, and often amounts to "here's a Discord, go beg"

When I read History at Cambridge, Peter Burke used to give a lecture on cultural boundaries in early modern Europe. He would stand in front of a map of Europe, drawing lines with a pointer, dividing the continent up like this: butter vs olive oil. Wheat vs. rye. It was one of the neatest (and tersest) lectures I remember going to.

I am upset at how much I have found myself enjoying the fancy "Fishwife"-branded canned fish. Tried the canned rainbow trout today for lunch and it was just lovely on some bread. The sardines are also excellent. Just mad they're so expensive, esp. when I remember good sardines as cheap food

Honestly I agree. If a device gets EOL'd, you should have to open-source the software needed to run the device.

The Boox Go Color 7 and a Bluetooth keyboard I have recently been using my Boox Go Color 7 e-reader a lot. The ability to carry, say, all of Gibbon's History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire in a tiny package and read a chapter or so at a time is pretty neat. The e-ink display and modest SOC mean that battery life is measured in days rather than hours.
