I'm #colorblind and I use https://xkcd.com/color/rgb/ frequently.

Randall 'xkcd' Monroe did a survey of over 100,000 readers where he showed them random rgb colors and said "what would you call this?" and afterwards he did his best to sort the results into the most popular color names and the colors they refer to.

It's like a box of Crayola for the internet. Finally, my colorblind self can grab a sample of "dark magenta" that doesn't just look like "grape purple" to everyone else.

The data is freely available as a .txt file under CC0, which I've converted into a .css file here: https://git.hatspace.net/nycki/nycki.net/src/branch/main/static/xkcd.css

so now when I want a color on my website I can just write color: var(--xkcd-off-white) or so on. it's really convenient :)

technology is amazing! https://ticalc.org is still alive and it's got an archive of software you can run on TI graphing calculators. I was able to do a full system dump of my TI-84+ and import it into TiLem emulator, which runs just fine on Switchroot Ubuntu. I've modified this overlay image to enlarge the screen a bit, too, now it sort of has nDS vibes I think. Actually... I wonder if anyone has made a TI-84 emulator for dual-screen devices. that would be neat. also wow I can't believe that I was into FiM as early as 2010. @Zelzius@xn--ratatskr-r4a.de @SteffoSpieler@fellies.social look, at this point I'm tired of people criticizing everything that isn't a perfect discord clone. I WANT diversity, I want clients to try new things, I want interesting flawed experiments, and I don't want everyone to give up and say "wahhhh but its not discord". Personally? I think XMPP is better! But Matrix is closer to what people expect, and of the clients available, Cinny is the most discord-like experience, so I'm recommending it for people who want an easy transition.

@wallabra@bark.lgbt these colors look fine to me! although I did notice a few other things: - the "pull-down" at the top of the page isn't marked in any way. Some users might not understand that they can hover on it. - if javascript is disabled, the pull-down still animates but the links are all gone. it might be good to have a second copy of these links on the home page, if you want to be compatible with less-featured browsers like netsurf (or the 3ds system browser :3) - on the 'cool stuff' page, there's a stray word "an" that ended up in the tag somehow and it's rendering at the top of the page. also: your art is cool and I'd love to hear more about triarc, having tried to do something similar myself a while ago because I used to play with this IRC bot called PyGBot (mostly for its Apples to Apples module).

I did the poker suits for the bunny cards, and i color-picked from the xkcd list for those too! when i mix my own colors, i typically use a HSV slider. the colors of the rainbow are *about* 45 degrees apart on the hue slider, so i get an approximate sense of what i'm working with.

@wallabra@bark.lgbt my game bot project (codename Piglin) is currently just some scraps of javascript, I think I was going to use Deno but if I revisit it I'll be switching to Bun. I like the idea of Deno but Bun is very polished for what it is.

@causticmsngo@mastodon.social it still does! and I used to use those, until I got burned by using 'magenta' and not realizing that ff00ff actually just looks more 'purple' to most people. I had thought I was using a sort of dark raspberry color but it turns out you need something like two parts red to one part blue for that.

@mav I think its because when Brave released it had really good branding. Reminder that the average person doesn't use ad blockers, doesn't even understand the difference between ads and content, that's just "how the internet looks." To someone who believes the hype, Crypto is a cool futuristic alternative to corporate-owned banks, and Brave is an early adopter that embraced that futurism. Crypto may have crashed in 2022 but the average user hasn't noticed yet, might _never_ notice.
