@johnhenrythe3rd@mastodon.social @Tutanota@mastodon.social true, European software and apps need to support #sailfishos and #jolla can start support on devices that allow #customroms to increase reach. Time for #europe to wake up and stop #bigtech to take over our digital life.

Jolla Phone Tech Specs Summary:

The Jolla Phone will use an unreleased MediaTek Dimensity 7000 series SoC, with details to be announced later. Memory includes 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage from Korean vendors, though global shortages may affect availability. The device supports a wide range of 4G and 5G bands, including LTE FDD/TDD and 5G NR.

The SIM configuration features a single tray with dual nano-SIM slots and a separate microSDXC slot, totaling 3 slots.

For cameras, the phone includes:

  • Primary: 50MP Sony IMX766 AF sensor
  • Ultrawide: 13MP Sony IMX214 AF sensor
  • Front: 32MP Sony IMX616 FF sensor Community apps like Advanced Camera will improve camera functionality.

The battery is a high-density Silicon Carbon Anode Lithium type, maintaining the same capacity in a slimmer design. This allows the device to be 1-2mm shorter and accommodate the 3-slot SIM tray.

The spec for The Other Half connector will be finalized in January based on community feedback. USB-C video-out is under consideration and requires updates to Sailfish OS. Sensors include gyroscope, compass, accelerometer, ambient light, proximity, and multi-GNSS support (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BEIDOU). The product page will be updated once the final specs are confirmed. Community collaboration is encouraged for camera and OS feature development. Update 2/2 #jollaphone #sailfishos #jolla #update

The Other Half Returns — Community Innovation Program

Hi there, As we approach selling total 5,000 units (🎉), we’re thrilled to announce Batch #3: The Other Half is coming back if we reach 10,000. Just like we defined the next gen Jolla Phone together with the community, we want to design the new The Other Half together with you. We’ll share what’s technically possible, you’ll vote on what to build, and together we’ll create something unique. What is The Other Half? The Other Half (TOH) is a swappable back cover that does more than protect ...

@tomgag@infosec.exchange maybe its time to shift the focus away from Android to linux mobile. @jolla@techhub.social what if @fdroid gets ready to move to Sailfish. There is comparability for Android apps. Google will close off android for FOSS, we cant fight it. But we can beat it. Check it out https://commerce.jolla.com/products/jolla-phone-preorder

@artelse@mastodon.social @denzilferreira@techhub.social same for the digital id eu apps #EUDIWallets In the Netherlands it will run only run with Google Play Integrity. Same response from the developers that it's for security reasons and Android Hardware Attestation API or Unified Attestation are not even considered as viable options.

@denzilferreira@techhub.social @artelse@mastodon.social @volla@mastodon.social @jolla@techhub.social yes, two different discussions you are right. On the foundation we are dealing with big tech lobby pushing in different directions and in different markets at the same time. Google is pushing for making play integrity a standard, banking apps are going to follow the DNA of the wallet apps. Last week I was offered to use my bank app to verify my identity. My best guess is that Banking apps will be connected to EUDI wallets and vice versa. Hence the same responses from developers because down the road they have to be compliant.

@denzilferreira@techhub.social @artelse@mastodon.social @volla@mastodon.social @jolla@techhub.social i hope you are right about the other banking apps. Most if not all banking apps are closed source, is there a way to verify that this ID verification API is there or not? I had never heared about it until the option suddenly appeared. Now after doing some investigation its the service IDin and is replaced last month by an european service called https://www.itsme-id.com/ now only for Belgium and the Netherlands but has an EU segment on the website. The 🪧 is : Login easily and secure: No need for card readers, passwords or usernames. With the itsme app, you easily and securely prove who you are. Timeline is that all verification goes by this app by the end of 2027. So yes if all of this will be interlinked and Play Integrity will be used as the default API for attestation. Then all alternative OS hard or software will not be able to use any of those critical apps that one will need to make your phone a daily driver. I think we could approach this differently. If attestation is only possible with Play integrity. Maybe we just need small devices that can can do this separate from our main devices. @jolla@techhub.social has opensourced the TOH. So a TOH with a system on a chip with a eink screen and android with play integrity? We keep hoping that at one point eu will wake up...

@denzilferreira@techhub.social @artelse@mastodon.social @volla@mastodon.social @jolla@techhub.social The link I provided earlier is actually amending Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 (eIDAS 1.0) providing the framework or rollout of eIDAS (2.0). However, due to urgency and shifting priorities, the demand for European digital infrastructure has increased significantly. This knowledge can help us steer back toward the original goals of eIDAS: interoperability, security, and digital autonomy the EU must prioritize open, sovereign solutions.
