@Rib@fedi.rib.gay apparently some isps that provide services over multiple fibre network providers (for example cityfibre (which is symmetric) and openreach (which is asymmetric) in the uk) will advertise the same (asymmetric) speeds for both but not throttle upload over the symmetric provider (it's probably not this in your case though since you'd have to switch ont and you'd know about that)

@freya@social.highenergymagic.net it was initially configured for an HMC but I reset the FSP from the ASMI web interface before doing this (it was also sold to me with an unknown ASMI password initially, which I reset with a jumper on the FSP)

@phnt@pl.borked.technology @silverpill@mitra.social @mkljczk@pl.fediverse.pl I’m glad that “dramafork” happened, because 4 years after the fork (and several more years after the issue to migrate (which I can’t find right now) was opened), gitea is still hosted on github. it is not acceptable for free software projects to force contributors to use proprietary software (namely github and discord) in order to contribute, and that’s almost reason enough for a fork by itself. apart from that, having a seperate proprietary “enterprise” version with more features (withholding features from the free version while still maintaining it) is a clear conflict of interest.

do real activitypub implementations actually implement inbox forwarding correctly? if yes, fixing the ghost replies problem with followers-only threads (where if Bob replies to Alice’s followers-only post, and Alice then replies to Bob, people who follow only Alice and not Bob would see Alice’s reply to Bob but not Bob’s reply to Alice) would seem to be as simple as adding the original poster’s followers collection to any replies: why has nobody done this? if no, why not? (this is something that should be fixed I think)

@nay@mice.tel I should also figure out what to do about cooling my power9 server (it does have cooling, but it sounds like a jet engine and will have to be in my bedroom). I was planning on getting some larger fans and taping them to the front with a cardboard funnel, but I'd need to figure out how to power them (I'm not sure if it's a standard fan connector, the fans are hot-swappable and certainly in a nonstandard form-factor) and even the PSU fans are annoying (they're tiny 1U fans, and I'm pretty sure every compatible PSU I could get to replace it would have equally annoying fans (it has two 1.4kW 1U PSUs, but only one is required and it probably won't actually use quite that much power unless I do something like filling all the PCIe slots with GPUs)) (but I will worry about that later, first I need to get it booting at all)

@freya@social.highenergymagic.net my suspicion continues to be that it's a weird pinout and I just didn't connect it right, but I haven't been able to find any information about what the correct pinout is. I might end up buying the overpriced IBM serial adapter, I can at least return it if it doesn't work. (I also can't do anything about it right now, I'd need to wait until I get home in a few days)

@freya@social.highenergymagic.net I'm just trying to get it to boot anything at all. It reaches status code AA00E1B0 (meaning "Waiting for the user to select language and keyboard."), but there is no output on the serial port and I don't have an HMC so I can't access the serial port that way. I think I probably just didn't connect to the serial port correctly (either that or there's something actually wrong with it). It's one of those 8P8C ones but it doesn't seem to be any of the standard pinouts (I tried EIA/TIA-561 and Yost). There's an official IBM adapter that might work but it's quite expensive for a passive adapter.

@freya@social.highenergymagic.net there's an ASMI web interface that I can access via the FSP ethernet ports where I can set the baud rate and I made sure all that was right. I don't have an oscilloscope (I should get one) but the documentation says it's serial and I measured 15V with a multimeter (which seems right for RS232 and definitely not Ethernet)
