I’m a faux curmudgeon.
You are welcome on my lawn.
Interest include reading, love to spend time with a good book. 3D printing and design. Lapidary and smithing both for jewelry and metalwork. Electronics and designing odd things that use microprocessors.
I was the servant of 1 kitty ( sadly departed) and happily married to my wife who is way smarter than me.

If you have a PH Pavilion with an AMD chip in it make sure you have your Bitlocker code handy if you get a firmware update in case it is needed.

We have 2 HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2234 PCs. Bought 3 years or so ago with AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors. HP dropped the Pavilion line and apparently now the TPM modules in them are no longer being updated.

They sent a recent update and when I applied it it brought me to the bitlocker screen to input the long series of numbers needed to continue. Thought maybe that was just something about mine but her machine also forced the bitlocker release code screen.

Luckily I had the codes handy but I imagine most do not.

Here is the letter they have hidden on their site.

HP AMD platforms with ASP fTPM - TPM Attestation failure
HP does not intend to release a BIOS update with Trusted Platform Modules (TPM) v3.92.5.5 for these legacy platforms. After a TPM update, TPM data is required to be cleared, which might clear the TPM outside the Windows API. This behavior is undesired.
These platforms are systems with an AMD Ryzen 1000 to Ryzen 5000 series desktop and notebook processor, including the following:
• OMEN 15-en0xxx Laptop PC Series
• HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec0xxx Laptop PC series
• OMEN Desktop PC 25L GT12-0xxxa
• OMEN Desktop PC 30L GT13-0xxxa
• HP Desktop PC M01-F2xxxa
• HP Desktop PC M01-F3xxxa
• HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-1xxxa
• HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-2xxxa
• HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-0xxxa
• HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-1xxxa
• HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop PC TG01-2xxxa
• Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop TG02-0xxxa

@jeffjarvis@mastodon.social The Nazi's should have done that. They did not need to explain with " I was just following orders" "This was not a crime by our laws. We were defending our country from takeover by the worldwide Jewish cabal." Could have worked if they had defanged the Allied courts Pax America means we make the rules and you follow them. /S

@briankrebs That 2005 data breech was a big headache for me Wells Fargo who was my visa provider at the time called me and asked if I was in Connecticut buying stereo equipment. I was not so they cancelled the card and we though all was well. Over the course of the next few weeks multiple quick and instant credit applications were approved . Best was a vehicle dealer in Puerto Rico. Someone pretending to be me bought a car down there Somehow he got my home phone number and called. I told him sorry when he kept asking if I was sure I did not buy a vehicle. I asked him can't he repossess it and he responded it probably is already in pieces by now. I still have my credit locked.

@nihilistnomya Learned something new today. Moreish. I assumed this was one of those new slang words that the youngins come up with. Only to find the Brits have been using it since the 1600's. Wonder if in the 2400's someone will read something like . Had some of that new Soylent Green, that stuff is bussin. And like me think that is some new slang word.

@amiserabilist First became aware of the hurdy gurdy from the Film Captain Courageous where Manuel ( Spencer Tracy ) played one.. Of course there's Donovans Hurdy Gurdy man . And Mummer's dance by Loreena McKennit. And many more that made me want to build one. There is a half finished one out in the shop that needs completing. Probably would never attempt to play it as I have the musical talent of a slug But my wife could. Made a banjo and a dulcimer for her which she occasionally play.

@petergleick@fediscience.org Unfortunately I live in an area where the gop has saturated the system. The Steube, could give a crap what my opinion as he is safe , same with Rick Scott. Ashley Moody thinks she is safe and I'm hoping she is wrong. I'm donating to both the early entrants on the Democrat side for now. Those of you who live in areas that could swing either way have a chance. If enough of you call that gop critter and he or she does the math and realizes that trump getting mad at them are the least of their worries. I called Ashley Moody's office , probably was a waste of time but I can hope. For me for now best I can do is donate money to try to get some of them knocked off their perches

Neighbors lawn mower bit the dust. I was looking at it with him to see if we could fix it and decided nope it appears the piston crank broke.

Since he is not computer literate I took a look to see if we could find a used engine for it. No luck but did find this as I was browsing.

@TechTangents@dialup.space It's happening in other crafts too. People post AI generated faceting diagrams that would not display what is shown if they could be cut. Can't wait for the faceting diagrams book to appear and someone shows me a picture from it and ask me how to cut that.

@carbon_compound@mastodon.social @helplessduck@beige.party Got a kick from the translate feature. I remember my Großtante always telling us to speak clearly so she could understand what we were saying . And to stand tall and still while we spoke. Proper children did not run around making constant noise. Side note, We used to crinkle paper near her at times because her huge hearing aid would pick it up. Her reaction as she pulled the ear pieces out spouting a mix of german and yiddish was funny. Yes we were little shits. But somehow Mastodon translate understood the word nuschelt as noseering. What language is that from?

Google translate says it is Estonian and translates to nosing .
