I feel it's important that lay people/ non-nerds be able to use software and hardware beyond the Apple/ Microsoft/ Big Tech monopolies. I don't believe they should be expected to learn nerdy stuff to do so.

So I'm trying right now to install Linux on an old Surface laptop I picked up cheap, and I'm trying to do it in as simple and normie-friendly as possible. Can this be done?

Thus far, I've had to burn the Zorin ISO to a thumb drive and turn off secure boot. I don't really see how someone can get around these, but at least it's minimal enough of a bar. Zorin is installing.

Assuming all goes well, I'll try setting up and using software with only the GUI tools they provide and minimal searching for help.

Stay tuned.

Witch Hat Atelier magic symbols look really cool, and I think they'd make cool tattoos.

But my kids pointed out that would be forbidden magic.

As it should be. The world would be a better place if we always acted with the knowledge that our cats were present.
