Inversion Sunrise, Scottish Highlands (2024).
The recent cold snaps in the UK have made me think back to some excellent mornings a couple years ago in the Highlands where I explored a rewilding glen in inversion conditions. The glowing light and sub zero temperatures in the birch lined valley made for stunning photographic opportunities.

Light, rain, ancient pines, mountains, snow dusted peaks... Scotland at its finest.

If you couldn't tell, I've been photographing a lot of Scottish mountains lately. Here's one from a rather turbulent day on a remote peak in the northwest highlands. There's something about the folklore and history of these spaces that deeply interests me. Images like these where you are battling the elements seem to capture a little bit of that feeling and emotion.

Samhain [sow-wen]: the ancient Celtic festival that marks the end of summer and the beginning of winter — the moment when Beira the Cailleach, Queen of Winter, regains control over the landscape from the Queen of Summer, Brigid. It also marks the moment when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest and the origins of Halloween. Mountain spirits come to the fore at this time of year.

I've been more or less absent here the last few weeks — for good reason. Lots of travel, lots of photography, and lots of hosting workshops! Anyway, here's a new image from my time in Death Valley National Park the other week at a very remote dune field. It was fast approaching twilight and this was the final composition of the night.

I've just published a brand new blog post with some takeaways and reflections after nearly 3 weeks straight spent photographing dunes across the US. There are a handful of new images to go along the 5 key insights for better dune photos. Check it out below!

The northwest Scottish Highlands at its best, viewed from a very remote wee hilltop. Pre-dawn light really complimented this scene nicely, creating a lovely glow across the gneiss and lochan in the foreground. Pictured are Ruadh Stac Mor (Big Red Stack), a clear change in geology from Lewisian Gneiss to pink Torridonian Sandstone, and A' Mhaighdean (The Maiden), Scotland's most remote munro.

A few abstracts from a recent trip to the Isle of Harris, where I hosted a hugely successful 5 day private 1-1 workshop. Enjoy!

Sometimes the classic views are classic for a reason! This image is just before sunset from a recent summit camp in Torridon with pretty spectacular photographic conditions. It was awesome to finally get this location in good light - one that I had previously attempted to photograph but the cloud base snuffed out much of the view.

I'm back on the islands and there is a significant chill in the northerly winds this morning, but I love it. The changing seasons makes me feel alive. This image was made a few years ago as part of my project "Machair" when I rushed over to catch the last of a big snowfall event on the west coast of #scotland

Pinebow, Scotland's Ancient Caledonian Forest (2024).
The cover image for my 2026 Calendar collaboration with Trees for Life! A spectacular evening spent exploring some of the native pine remnants on the west coast with a double rainbow to boot. This area is surrounded by some of the country's finest mountains and lochs making it a perfect spot for photography or just enjoying the view.

The Quiver Tree Forest of South Africa. What an exceptional place: otherworldly, strange, slightly eerie, but utterly fascinating. It's somewhere I'll continue to return to again and again; there's nothing quite like the solitude and quietness of the Karoo desert.

Over the last few years, I've been on a journey to explore some of Southern Africa's wildest places, from ancient Canyons to the Drakensberg. These expeditions explore inner and outer landscapes: they are about tracking my wild-self, storytelling around the campfire, and searching for solitude in unexpected moments.
