@peterdrake@mstdn.social The Miles Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold. An engaging protagonist whose flaws are as entertaining as his virtues, a rich universe with varied cultures, and fun adventure mixed with insightful character development. And the duology about his parents (collected as Cordelia's Honor) is also excellent.

@artemis@dice.camp For mostvof us with ADHD, there is only now and not-now.

@MissConstrue @MostlyHarmless @futurebird I feel like getting a doctor to prescribe it is easy. It's getting insurance to cover it that's the challenge.

@thegarbagebird@theblower.au @benroyce@mastodon.social @alanthecampbell@techhub.social @lzg@mastodon.social Voting alone isn't enough, but we still need to do it. It's what we call in math proofs necessary but not sufficient.

@RichqrddeNooy@mastodon.social We had that exact same design in my childhood home. Never realized it was a Dutch thing.

@Catvalente@wandering.shop Did a rewatch not too long after the last presidential election. Probably due for another one soon.

@Haste When you do build alternatives, please name them Floop and Glorm. I'll sign up immediately.

@ludicity@mastodon.sprawl.club @iris_meredith@mastodon.social I've never conflated grumpy curmudgeon with paladin before, but I kind of see it here.

@screwturn@mastodon.social As a fellow old dude, this is the only point I even partially disagree with. Lean muscle mass is incredibly important as you get into your 50s and beyond for injury prevention and staying active. Don't get fit to be tough or "alpha." Get fit to keep enjoying your life.

@Daojoan@mastodon.social Yes, but at the same time it's the author's job to get me to relate to a character even when they are very much not like me. I will never be a powerful wizard, a private investigator, or a noble lady seeking a husband. Good writing will turn on the empathy machine anyway.

@ZachWeinersmith When I was in school, I found Strang's lectures at MIT on the subject to be incredibly useful. If you're open to a non-book option, that is.

@Haste When what it actually is is an ai-free site for peer reviewing research.

@Haste That is hilarious. And Glorm is apparently a character in a children's book.
