This lunch includes all five of the main Dutch food groups: cheese, cucumber, geometry, boredom and sorrow, with most of the vitamin content provided by the soul-destroying view of endless flatness spilling off the far-flung horizon.

Let’s wait until our fragile, little spaceship is entirely ablaze before we panic.

Poetry is my favourite Palestinian export product.
Knowing that both of these people actually exist provides the darkest possible backdrop, allowing the tragicomical truth to shine brightly.
Snuck in to write this while
the world was fast asleep
tired of killing darlings
and throwing out babies

veil brides and play ghosts.
Strange how so many poems
end abruptly these days.
Poets too. Anonymously.
"Every bombed village is my hometown.
And every dead child is my child.
Every grieving mother is my mother.
Every crying father is my father.
Every home turned to rubble
is the home I grew up in.
Every brother carrying the remains
of his brother across borders
is my brother.
Every sister waiting for a sister
who will never come home
is my sister.
Every one of these people are ours,
Just like we are theirs.
We belong to them
and they belong to us."

Thread updated in celebration of Dutch Easter, which starts tomorrow.
The Thing (IKEA part no. 131020)
